Weaning a toddler....

My DD LOVES to nurse still....and I mean, LOVES! We nurse when she wakes up (sometimes for an hour or longer which means it is mostly for comfort), when I get home from work (or for naps during the weekend-she goes to sleep fine for naps without nursing when I am not around), and before bed. So during the week it is 3 times a day, and on the weekends about 4-5. She is 20 months and I am getting ready to start the weaning process. I would like her weaned by her 2nd birthday.

I never thought I would be nursing this long, but I honestly kept hoping she would self wean at some point, but that is not happening. It is going to be hard for her and for me, but it is time.

Any tricks? Don't offer/Don't refuse will not work. She has even been extra intense lately where she keeps seeking it out. Is there ANY possible way to do this in a semi-painless way????

you just described my lo a couple of months ago! I Started by refusing that feed just after work so that he didnt expect it whenever i walked in. I also made sure at weekends i did no feeds during the day except the first and last and if necessary got lo to sleep after a drive in the car. Then i moved his night feed to just before bath so he stopped associating with bed before dropping it completely about a week later. When we had just the morning feed left i continued until i was ready to give it up and then i got my oh to get up the first couple of mornings with him and then just started offering breakfast as soon as i got up with him. It was much easier than i expected considering when i tried around xmas time he kept screaming whenever i refused him a feed.

Thank you Miss- I plan on starting with that after work feed and take it from there...I know she will not be happy though,,,,,praying I can distract her with something!
