Hi all,

I've had lots of problems with breastfeeding and I am finally ready to give in and switch to bottles so would like some advice.

I have already started supplementing with formula a little in the evenings but how do you wean completely so your boobs don't feel like they're going to explode particularly first thing in the morning. Also worried about getting mastitis?

Thanks xxx

Reduce the length of breastfeeding bit by bit until baby shows a desinterest. Hope this helps!

i have receintly switched aswell.I slowly cut down the breast feeds and replaced them. i didnt get pain in my boobs this way. took a week or so!
hope this helps

Hey hun. I read to replace two feeds a day and do it gradually, it shoud take 1-2 weeks to completely wean xxx

hi princess

how are you getting on with the breastfeeding so far ?

Not good at all! I've been poorly with mastitis all weekend and therefore had to bf as much as possible. I so desperately want to stop now - it's no good for either of us! Just waiting for a bf advisor to call.

Hi princess,

Really sorry to hear, i have been very busy too, and feel a bit ashamed not to be able to help. When i had my first child i found it very difficult, so i went for the mixte feeding (bottle and brestfeeding), but with my third one my nipple were not painful at all so i breastfed her only until she reached 7 months, now she is 18 months and i am still breastfeeding her from time to time. Hope you didn't give up, but i think if it is painful try to introduce the bottle and keep breastfeeding from time to time when you feel like, your baby will still get antibodies.
Please let me know how you are getting on.

I am going through the exact same thing. I stopped all of a sudden yesterday and my breasts were really sore through out the night. They are leaking like crazy! I have 3 nursing pads on in each side of my bra. It is now morning and my boobs don't feel so bad. I have also been massaging out any lumps that are appearing. I had mastitis up until a few days ago.

When i had my first child, breastfeeding was very painful at the begining so i couldn't feed as much as i would have liked. I rubbed the camomille cream on my nipples and i let them breathe outside the bra, and would feed after 4 or 5 hours, i found it useful. Also before going to sleep i used again the camomille cream and would sleep without bra, i just wrapped a towel around my chest, and i found it was relieving. I didn't follow the advice of the health visitor who was telling me to always breastfeeding to keep the milk supply up as i couldn't because of my sore nipples, so i breastfed when i felt like.
