Weaning my premature baby any advice......

Hi ladies

My baby boy was born at 25 weeks 5days gestation and now 21weeks 3days old should only be 7weeks old.

He is really struggling with some bottles due to silenent reflux, on meds and sometimes it helps somes times doesn't. I just needs a little advice.... He will be 5months old on 22/1/12 and was thinking of trying a little baby rice to see if it would help the reflux I asked our neo natal nurse and she couldn't advice only said they advice starting at 6months. I don't want to harm is little digestive system but want to make feeding easier for him.

my lo was born at 25+6, he is now almost 8 months, 19 weeks corrected. He also has reflux and is on medication for it. We weaned at the beginning of november when he was 13 weeks corrected and he was ok. Can u not ask you paediatrician. It wont harm to try him on a little and if he is not ready he will soon let you know. xx

Bliss guidelines recommend weaning between 5-7 months actual.

I weaned my lo around 6 1/2 months actual but I know others who have weaned closer to 5 without any problems. You will just need to take it very slow. If it doesn't work for him then you can stop and try again in a few weeks.

Hey there

I weaned my LO around 5.5months. We took it really slowly. I found the baby rice made Ella really windy and constipated so tended to stick to really pureed carrot and butternut squash. I went with her guidance and if she was poorly at all i'd hold back a little till she was able. Now 17months old (and still only has two little teeth ), she is thriving, loves her food and eats pretty much everything. I offered a wide variety of tastes and textures when i felt she was able and so far it seems to have been beneficial. Wishing you all the best with it. I was terrified to begin with but through time built up confidence.
