Hi Ladies

DD is almost 6months actual, 16w adjusted. She's showing interest in us eating and food in general. I'm not sure whether to wait till she's 6m adjusted. What did you girls do?

I've been putting a wee but of fruit juice (not from a carton, from a piece of fruit I'm eating) on her lips to see if she liked the taste-she went wild for the apple! Would love to try her with a little puréed apple. Is it too soon?

Yes, babies shouldn't be fed until 6 months at the earliest and that goes for preemies as well, they shouldn't be fed until 6 months adjusted age.

They say 6 months for weaning:flower:

Speak with your consultant or dietician they might advise different.
There's so many different opinions ?

I got told Go by her actual age now not adjusted age :hugs:

Yes, you must realize a lot of doctors have different opinions on this. But I am going to trust a "preemie doctor" who writes a book on it, over a regular pediatrician who doesn't specialize in premature babies. (That's where I got adjusted age instead of actual.) But, I also am not big on starting babies on solids and juices too early, anyway. They can't digest it properly until at least 6 months of age if not later, but a lot of people start solids and cereals way too early when there's really no need. A baby gets more than enough of the vitamins and nutrients he needs from breastmilk and I don't see a reason to start supplementing with food when he doesn't need it. Just my 2 cents! :)

Thanks ladies. We're seeing the dietician in Feb so I'm guessing that's what it's about as she'll be almost 6m adjusted by then. I just feel so guilty when she's watching me eat and moving her mouth as if to chew.

Hi hun

Bliss advise the contrary, 5-7 months actual age. The website and pdf explains why, and how
https://www.bliss.org.uk/help-for-families/feeding/weaning/

I'd prefer to trust the charity to be honest than one persons opinion.

When we went for our neonatal check up, they were shocked our HV was forcing the guidelines down our throat as it is different for preemies. She was sent a report from that appointment explaining why we should have been weaning as per the Bliss recommendation

Don't feel guilty your baby watching you eat they dont understand.
I got told I can wean my son he's just gone 16 weeks he was born at 36 weeks so 4 week early.but I'm waiting longer even though he looks ready his tummy isn't hell have to watch and wait

I introduced solids just past 6.5 months actual (about 5m adj), but we are following BLW and he STILL hardly actually eats any of it at almost 9 months actual. Yesterday was the first day we felt like he actually ATE food, not just played with it and partially swallowed a bit.

We followed our pediatrician's recommendation. Since LO was only 6 weeks prem (and I think, based on my calculations and his head size at the scan right before birth, it may have been closer to 5 weeks) I wasn't too worried.

I decided to go ahead and try her on some mush. Just a few pouches of the Ella's Kitchen range. Just gave her a few spoonfuls to see how she went and she loved it! She was grabbing the spoon herself to put in her mouth. I'm taking it very slowly

I forgot a bib though :dohh:

Aww bless

Everyone is to there own when it comes to weaning..
just after I last posted my consultant said i can start weaning slowly he is 4 month 1 wk,( born 36wk) 1 month early,so 3 mth adjusted?
Tried little egg custard was ok but taking each day slow, every baby different

My other 2 sons born at 28wk and 26 week they started about 7 month actual age but once they got the taste they loved it :haha::haha:

Glad your little one is loving it just go with how you feel but bib next time

HV came today and said that my usual HV didn't want her weaned yet. I said it's not for her to say, I'm her mother. So she phoned lo's dietician who agreed with me and only said to add a baby porridge in so it can be mixed with the milk :)

My daughter started eating purees around 6 months actual, 3.5 corrected (born at 29+5). She was just having a couple spoonfuls at a time. It actually helped her gain weight. I made her oatmeal cereal with breast milk or formula or rice cereal with some fruit purees added. She loved it. She hasn't had any feeding issues and we have done everything by actual age. She has been eating everything we have been eating since she was about 10 months actual.

Just bought some stage 1 baby porridge I can add BM to. Will swirl some fruit in it

She'll love that :happydance:

With regards to her formula if you mix it in her foods she'll gradually put weight on I wouldn't worry too much.

Not tried again with my little one he too poorly at mo hes struggling with his milk but once he's better will be catching up to you :happydance:
