Firstly - sorry to those of you who think I'm being superficial and vain.

I am 5 weeks pregnant and have weighed around 11 st 8 for the last year or so. Not light but I am tall and fit so its okay.

My last two pregnancies (last 9 years ago!!) I started at 10 stone and put on 1 stone 4 with my first and 2 stone with my second. Because of my higher starting weight I had hoped to curtail my weight gain to around 1 stone 6-7lbs leaving me around half a stone to lose whilst feeding.

However - I stepped on the scales today and I am 11 stone 11.5lbs :cry::cry::cry:

I just dont understand it I havent been eating more and I didnt gain much at all with my first two in the first trimester. Whats going on??? I can feel it all on my legs and tummy and whilst I am very happy to be pregnant I want to have this under control!!!

Any tips anyone - anyone experienced this?

Thanks for your help and sorry if I sound ungrateful to be pregnant

Hi hun :hi:

When you are pregnant there are a lot of things that put weight on in your body, firstly your blood volume increases, you get water retention, your placenta and Amnitotic waters add weight, and your body has fat reserves too.....now I know this is very early days for you at the moment, but your body is going thru a lot of changes, and as long as you are not eating loads, then it can't be food that is gaining your weight can it? So you have nothing to worry about! x

Thanks for your reply.

I know it cant be food - 3.5 lbs = 12250 cals - I would have remembered eating those over the weekend!!!!!

Am sure its probably fluid retention - will keep an eye over next few days.

Just got images of me putting that on thoughout !!!!

I found out when I was 6 weeks, between then and 12 weeks, I gained 10 lbs.

I'm not quite sure what a stone is but I wouldn't worry about it too much, I gained alot at first then it slowed down A LOT!!

Hey - why cry abotu putting on weight when pregnant?? ISnt that the aim? To grow and become a nice cosy home to baby?
enjoy it, go with it. Lets face it - at this early statge it's prob just water anyway: But people CANT diet whilst pregnant, it's just not right.

And who cares if you have put on the weight??
eat healthily, be healthy and dont worry, nature knows what its doing.

You can diet after baby has departed your body, and not before.

March Baby

Thankyou for your reply.

A stone is 14lbs.

Hopefully mine will slow down alot too!!!!!

Thanks for your reply. I know - I dont intend to diet when I am pregnant and am trying to eat healthily and be healthy - was just a bit dismayed to find I had put on already so early

sorry if my post sounded harsh, i'm feeling very hormonal today. But really weight isnt a thing to worry about. swell up all you like I say! We will all be bloated, pregnant and beautiful!

Your post didnt sound harsh - and I rather like the thought of being a cosy home for my baby!!!

Sorry you are feeling hormonal - its amazing how it all affects you isnt it !

x

Down 2.5lbs this morning - must have been fluid / eating too much salty stuff - phew!!!:happydance:

Really starting to feel pregnant now - upset tummy and sick - feels good though - signals strong hormones for me!!

I know how you feel. I feel really selfish for worrying about it too but I hate the idea of my body changing too much to the point I can't get it back afterwards. I liked my body how it was!

I don't think you should monitor every bit of weight you put on over the next 9 months and wonder if you really need it because you'll just make yourself feel worse & you don't know for sure whether it's baby, fluid or fat reserves.... which you need a little of. As everyone knows it's not healthy to diet during pregnancy so all I can suggest is making sure you eat enough and not too much more. Try to be healthy and not binge and try to maintain your physical activities if they're safe. I'm relying on breastfeeding to help me shift some and the rest I guess will just be a bit of hard work.
