DD1 started reception in September and we have noticed she has lost a bit of weight in her face and her jeans are way looser .

She eats the same amount at home and school day she's eating her dinners . (Had issues with school so not too trusting of them lately )

Would this cause anyone concern or would you expect this given the longer days ? . Switching to packed lunch after the half term .

Have you measured her / have her pants been looking a little shorter? My DD usually looks like she's thinning out, and then we notice she's grown, and she catches up. Either way, if she seems like she has enough energy and is still eating at home, it might just be a phase. She might be expending lots of energy! If that's the case, maybe a higher calorie lunch or extra snack might be needed? Xx

I would just see how it goes over the next month or two. Mine has also lost a bit of weight since she started reception, maybe about half a kilo or even a bit more. She tends to be small anyway. I suspect it's because she's eating less during the school day.

Mine has been in nursery full time for 2 years, so is used to being away all day and actually the school day is significantly shorter than her nursery days used to be. But I suspect she probably doesn't eat as much at lunch time as she would either at home or at nursery. She tends to get easily distracted in unfamiliar or busy surroundings and not eat that much. Also, in the mornings they have snack but it's just fresh fruit or veg and milk. There's no other carbs, protein or fat, so it's pretty low calorie. At nursery, they usually had something more substantial for snack time (bread sticks, a yogurt pot, oat cakes, etc. plus fruit and milk). She has a snack when she gets home and she eats well for breakfast and dinner, so I can only imagine that must be what it is.

I plan to just keep an eye on it. She is still perfectly fine in terms of where she is on the centile chart (around 50% in weight, though she's short, always has been). And I make sure she gets a good snack when she gets home and then a hearty supper at night plus a cup of milk before bed.

Thanks sevenofnine , I didn't think about a growth spurt I checked her pants yesterday and they seem to be in the same place just the waist is baggy. I had to move the button on another pair of jeans the other day but didn't think anything of it until MIL mentioned her jeans being baggy !

Mindutopia - I am not suspecting she's not eating enough snack / lunch I do ask her everyday what she's had and it's usually half or all of her dinner. Found out she's been having sausage roll god knows how big/small they are and a banana . Sometimes only milk for snack so obviously not enough there from breakfast at 7.30/8.00 until 4:00 pm .
I have been giving her more veg and slightly bigger portion sizes ! . She's also a very fussy eater but is trying lots of new things so also suspect she's trying food and no liking it so leaving it . School has been useless so far in relaying what she's had to eat. When I ask at the end of the day then just then ask DD1 what she's had (doh!) means nothing to DD1 meals and portion sizes

I will keep an eye on it like you said Mindutopia and see how we get on but I'm thinking packed lunches after half term . I will know exactly what she's eaten then ! X
