We are pretty sure we will have Rose as our girl name, but I'm thinking of a back up incase the name doesn't suit.

I really like Ruby and I think it goes quite well with our other children's names, and our surname - Lee. But I am a bit worried that everyone sees it as a bit of a chavvy name, and what concerns me most is that there is a teenage girl that lives three doors away with this name and she is a bit of a tearaway. The other thing is the popularity.

Ava was going to be our back up name, but it's popularity really bothers me, I don't want a child being one of two or three Ava's in her class, but I think Ruby is pretty popular too :/

Would love to hear your views on Ruby. Thanks in advance 🌹

My 8yr old is Ruby. Honestly? I LOVE it, everywhere we go people without fail, comment on how lovely her name is. She is in a school with 100 children in her year group and she is the only one. Its not THAT popular here at all.

The main thing is though is that I love her name so much i honestly don't care what others think. Thats the beauty about choosing a name YOU love. :D nothing or no one would put me off her name. I think its beautiful and suits her to a tee.

I really like Ruby. It is considered chavvy where I am but I wouldn't let that put me off using it.

I think it pretty. One of my LOs friends is called Ruby so it's not on our list for a first name but possibly as a middle name.

I think it's an adorable name. In the US it's not popular and not "chavvy" at all. I know one little girl with this name & she's a sweetheart and from a good family.

One of my best friends name is Rubi, and she is a wonderful wholehearted person. A little goofy sometimes but I love her. Up until meeting her 2 years ago I'd never heard the name.

Any of the popular names would have been used by chavs. We have a big estate up the road and beatrix has become popular, certainly not a chavvy name but noticed but chavs haha

I love Ruby such a short and sweet name.

Love the name Ruby, it would be on my shortlist if it wasn't for a family member already having the same name, and certainly not chavvy in my experience!

I know, we have a large estate not too far from us and if I pop to the shops up there I hear Lily a lot, a name I used to adore (could never use it due to our surname), but it's really put me off it ;(

I too love it because it's short and sweet and just a lovely name. What I also like is that it's a name that ages well, and it doesn't sound too 'fashionable' iykwim, so don't think it will ever sound dated. X

Really like Ruby. I say go for it :) What are your other daughters called?

My other daughters names are:-
Shani (pronounced shay-nee)
Sofia (she's 15, was not at all popular back then)
Evie
Madeleine (she's Mainly known as Maddie)

This is a name I've always loved & considered for our child one day..until I got married, and realised our last name sounds kind of silly with Ruby. And then my boss named his dog Ruby.

But these two things aside: LOVE it. And I only know one little girl Ruby. She's 3, and very cute.

I love Ruby. :) It's not common here and definitely not something I would associate with our version of chavvy.

The possibility of the nickname Roo just kills me... way too cute.

My grandmother was Ruby Rose. I like it :) I can't really give input on whether it's chavvy or not, since name culture is so different from country to country.

I love Roo as a nickname, too. One of my friends has a little Ruth, and she goes by Ru a lot.

I do think Ruby Lee sounds a bit like a psychic if i am totally honest. Also a little to much like Rosie lee rhyming slang for cup of tea. It is a very pretty name though.

We use Ru as a NN but tbh its really nice that people dont actually shorten her name. Occasionally Rubes but its a pet name not a nickname like Kate/Jo etc

I love the name Ruby. It would have been on my list but oh isn't a fan. We used to live in a not so pleasant area with a few chavs and I never heard the name Ruby used!

I love the name Ruby. It's one of my favourite girls names :)

I love Ruby Lee! That is one of the best names I have heard on here.

I can't stand Rose, it's so...musty smelling elderly lady...

..

Thank you :). I'm really liking it at the moment, think it might actually be my favourite on my list. Just need to think of a middle name now.........
