Hi

Im having horrible side effects on Clomid and thinking of asking my FS for an alternative for next cycle. Ive heard ppl talk about injectables being an alternative, I know theyre not side effect free, but Im hoping that Ill be able to tolerate them more.

What exactly are they tho? What drug or drugs can I google to find out about it?

Many thanks

x

You might first ask your doctor about Femara... it's a newer drug, but taken orally like Clomid, and seems to have less side affects. Not all doctors will prescribe it though as it is much newer to helping with Fertility. Several woman have posted about how great it was compared to the horrible Clomid side affects... so it can't hurt to ask.

Not sure what specific drug(s) are in the Injections... I believe they are gonadotropins? Although your Fertility Specialist would be able to clarify. They do have a higher risk of multiple births, but that may not be a concern for you.

Best of luck hun!!!! Hopefully you won't need any more help after this cycle ;)

Hi Cranberry,

One of many injectables is Ovidrel (Choriogonadotropin Alfa Injection) I received mine yesterday.

I am on clomid 50 mg and I am going to use the injection to push the eggs out of the follicles. I have a u/s next friday to see if I have any mature follicles and then the doctor will let me know when to inject. I hear a lot of people move to injectables but only if they are doing ivf. I know that the injection will give you a false negative because it's really a pregnancy hormone injected. So its very important to wait for two weeks for a :bfp:

Good luck hun! I hope you get your :bfp: soon!!

I think Id do a hpt anyway :p would be lush to see a bfp even if i knew it was a fake hehe

thanks for the replies, will consult dr google

There are different types of injections - ovidrell and hcg - both of these cause you to ovulate and release the eggs.

The other types are follitism - puregon - gonal F - menopur - all of these help you to grow more of your eggs to the right sie to be released. Basically they do the same as clomid and femara/letrozole, but they are much stronger. These same meds are used in ivf, but at a much higher dose (to grow many more eggs to the right size).

In my past I have used Femara (much much much gentler than Clomid).

In conjunction with Femara, I use follistim ... with Femara alone I only produce 1 egg, when I inject Follistim I normally will get 3-7 mature follicles (I only stim for 3-4 days, aka 3-4 injections per month). Once I receive an ultrasound that shows my follicles are mature, I then take another injection "Ovidrel" to induce ovulation.

This in conjunction with IUI, I have a good success rate. I highly recommend Femara, great drug, great results!
