Just wondering what brands of breakfast cereals you feed your LOs? Looking for something that's low/no added sugar or salt and not necessarily just the baby ones (they're expensive). We do BLW and she's good at picking things up. We do weetabix some mornings, but I'd like to try something else as she's getting bored with that. We do lots of other things - porridge balls, eggs, toast, etc. Just would like something I can grab quickly if we're on the go or for a weekend away that doesn't involve much prep.

You could probably use regular oatmeal and just put it in the blender or food processor to make the pieces smaller. And then of course add the appropriate amount of liquid to give it the right consistency! I would imagine that it's cheaper than baby oatmeal!

Thanks, but was thinking more things along the lines of Cheerios, Shredded Wheat, etc. We already do porridge balls and fingers, but she's bored of those and we don't do spoon feeding so she'd never let me get close to her with a spoon of that anyway! I'm just asking because I'm worried about the added salt and sugar in cereals as they always seems kinda unhealthy despite all the 'health claims' they make.

We give Emilia shredded wheat and she loves it! Also I have tried her with soggy cornflakes too (messy one and a little trickier for her). One trick I use to make the shredded wheat tastier is I buy tins of fruit in fruit juice (such as apricots and pears) and I pour a little of the juice onto the shredded wheat as well as putting the fruit with it.

How do you make porridge balls?

Also have you tried crumpets or potato cakes? We give her them as an alternative to toast sometimes and she seems to love the crumpets!

I tried my boy on the Ella's Kitchen Cheerios this morning. He seemed to like those.

I will be stalking for ideas too!

Edit to add - after tasting the Ella's Kitchen Cheerios it's much more apparent how much added sugar there must be in normal Cheerios! I'm a bit reluctant to give grown up cereal for this reason but also stuck for ideas! Also, the baby versions are so expensive! It's tricky!

You can buy 'sugar' puffs in a version with nothing added, Sainsbury's used to sell their own brand and several health food-y type brands are sold in other supermarkets. Xx

Porridge balls are just porridge oats soaked in some milk for a couple minutes, then microwaved for 2 minutes and rolled up into balls when cool enough to handle. There are actual recipes online somewhere, but I just eyeball the amounts now.

Yeah, got some cheerios today. Do we not have normal cheerios in the UK? Like the plain kind in the yellow box? All I could find was the 'multigrain' ones which apparently are really sugary! In the U.S. where I grew up we have a plain unsweetened one that doesn't taste like that at all.

Hmmm....I don't think there are plain ones. The ones here that are in a yellow box (I think) are the honey ones. I might be wrong, but I think it's honey or multigrain ones.
