hi girls, ok there could probably be a millions things wrong but just thought i would ask your opinion. Ive been ntnp for 11yrs but really trying in the first few years. Didnt know anything about charting temping etc so was hoping i had missed the right time. I have been pregnant twice before but not with my current dh. Home sperm test last yr indicated that he had more than 10million motile sperm per mil. So im thinking hes not the problem. I decided to chart temp etc for 3 months and :sex: and the fertile time, before going to the drs. So i went yesterday and im going to be reffered to gynocologist. But ive learnt through charting that i do ovulate and i have a normal lutual phase. What could be wrong? Any ideas? What will happen when i get my appointment. Plz help? X

Hey there, I am afraid I cannot help with what might be wrong and I really do feel for you. I have only been trying for 2 years and already I am at my wits end.

I can however try and help with the fertility appointment as I had my first one last week although I do think the appoints can vary between the different Primary Healthcare trusts - are you in the UK? My first appointment was with the fertility nurse and she asked both my husband and I firstly questions about the safety of a child, historic abuse etc. Then she asked us how long we had been trying, if we have regular sex, when we have sex, any known STI's, any pain during sex..... basically a complete history of our sexual activity!! The nurse then highlighted any things she thought we could try to do in the meantime although as we are both non-smokers and quite healthy there wasn't much she could recommend but I do have to cut down on the wine.... boo hoo!

Once we had gone through this the nurse gave us a pot and appointment time for DH to drop off his sample and booked me in for 4 blood tests, an internal ultra sound and an HSG test (really scared about that one!). We then have an appointment to see the consultant in June to discuss the results.

I dont know about you but I am relieved at the fact that I am actually doing something and hoping that I will get some answers as to why I still haven't been able to conceive.

Good luck! xx

Hi

I don't know what the problem is - but hopefully your referral should start to bring you some answers. Did the GP mention getting a semen analysis done for your OH? I know you said you've done a home one, but they may be able to get a more detailed breakdown of his sample.

It may also be that all the tests your gynae does come back fine, and you may enter that frustrating are of 'secondary' or 'unexplained' infertility.

Before I got referred to a gynae, my GP ran some blood tests on me, and a SA on my OH. Then the gynae organised an HSG to confirm that my tubes were clear.

I'm glad that you're on the road to getting some answers and I wish you lots of luck. Let us know when you get your appointment through :hugs:

i cant offer anymore advice than the ladies above have. just wanted to wish you luck, keep us updated xx

hi - been NTNP for a year and a half and actively trying for over 2 years myself and still no BFP (so nearly 4 years in total). We have both been tested and both fine so unexplained infertility - who knows why we arent getting pregnant - just thats its bloody frustrating to say the least.

Hopefully the FS appointment will shed a bit more light on things for you.

Good luck

Hey dear, I´m sorry I can´t offer any advice either!

Well, I´m a bit the opposite of you. I went to the doc. because of irregular periods and found out one problem after the next!!!!! I kinna wish that I didn´t have to find out about my issues - if you know what I mean.

I first found out that I have thyroid hypothroidism - or smth like that. So I take thyroid pills now. Then I found out that I have PCOS- from elevated LH levels. And then I found out that I have iNsulin resistance. So I started taking Metformin - which gave me 3 weeks of non-stop headaches and migraines. ANd my period is still not here - still VERY irregular....my last cycle was 5 months long!

So basically, I have my answers to my problems and am starting medications, but nothing seems to be working yet...and I get a string of side effects as a result.

I think unexplained infertility sucks, but at least that means you´re still healthy - in every sense of the word, except that you´re not conceiving yet....but you did mention that you got PG twice??? So that means you CAN get pregnant....which is great! :)

I always did wish that I would be "healthy" and not have "health" issues about not being able to conceive....but I guess all of us have to go down different paths.

**hugs** I really hope for you that you´d find your answers soon!

Hi Diane
Sorry for the frustration you must be feeling. I would think the first things that will be done is blood tests (thyroid, hormones etc), then HSG possibly (although if you've got preg then your tubes must be passable), ultrasound to check for cysts, then there is a chance they'll do a lap to look inside for endometriosis or such like. Or they may just say unexplained infertility. When you say you have been preg, have you m/c'd? They might well investigate for causes of m/c like clotting disorders but in a lot of places unless you are over 35 you need to have 3 m/c before they'll check it out.
Where in Scotland are you? We're off to RIE on 12th to see my gynae in her fertility clinic as when I saw her for the first time they found I was preg and she said if it didn't work out we'd move straight on to fertility clinic even though we've only been trying for 8 months (for once my stupid endo is being helpful!!!)
Really hope you get your appointment quickly! (For us there was a 12 week wait from referral)
