I washed all bubs clothes and had FOB put up all the nursery furniture last night, i was going to put all his clothes away but noticed that the new wood smell is pretty overwhelming, did you put anything in the drawers before you but your babies stuff away?

whats the best thing to use?

I hadn't thought of that actually, will be interesting to see others say!!

i wiped all my drawers out with baby wipes before putting stuff in them, but the furniture wasn't new we just moved it from other rooms.

maybe leave the drawers open for a while to let the new smell wear off before putting stuff in?

Contact paper, the stuff you line kitchen cabinets and shelves with.

I bought drawer liners...you can get cheap ones from TK maxx, or you can get some from M & S...I didn't want an overpoweringflowery smell though (because he is a boy) so I got tumble drier sheets and put them under the drawer liners and the clothes smell of lovely newly tumbled clothes!

You have to make sure you put the tumble drier sheets under something (such as a piece of paper or draswer liner) because there is an oil on them that can come off on to the clothes if they touch directly.

Thanks, think I'll try this!!!

try some wallpaper  cut it to size and put it in! xx

Hi,

It'll be ok...honestly we all needn't worry so much about new wood smells, tumble dryer sheet oil, flowery drawer liners.

Just leave the drawers open for a little while to let the smell lessen but be aware once you close them the smell will intensify again - it wont cause your baby to smell any less adorable or make them in anyway poorly.

There are more important things to worry about - surely?

I put drawer liners in mine also, mostly because the dresser we're using is pretty old so there are some knicks in the bottom of the drawers and I didn't want her clothes to snag on those. My liners are unscented though, so I may use the dryer sheet idea as well.

oh yeah twists, lots of things more important, but the smell is darn strong and i dont want him stinking like wood lol

Of course there are more important things to worry about, but this is one of the fun girly things to care about. I want my little guy to smell delicious always.

What a funny thing to say...of course there are more important things, but I know I want my little one to smell nice...nothing wrong with that and its not as if we are choosing between making the drawers smell nice and making sure the baby is fed - you can do unimportant nice things for your baby too...

Live and let live!

you can always put a bit of potpouri in a little bag and into the drawer, you dont have to get a flowery overpowering smelly one.. can get some lavendar ones which are nice or basically choose what smell you want to use.. Also the wallpaper thats what i'd do. x

I'm a bad mummy i didn't even notice the new wood smell i was so excited, looks like my baba will be smelling of wood!

haha not at all lottie, you walk in his bedroom and all you can smell is wood, you would for sure notice it! maybe it will mellow out some over the next few days but man it is rank at the minute!

The smell will go down in a few days honey, ours was the same but I can't smell it any more. I've only washed a few things so far, going to do the rest in a week or 2 and get it put away, my little man's bedroom is already full of "junk" and this is before he's here to mess it up with toys - ha ha

Ha emma i have just put some of his clothes in the baby bag ready and his little going home outfit does stink of wood! Everything will need washing but its a good job you posted this or i wouldn't have even thought about it! xx

My drawers don't smell but felt a little splintery so i just lined them with wallpaper for that reason only really.
