I'm going Monday the 17th to find out the gender. I see a lot of comments on here saying that some babies are shy. What happens then? Will they say too bad? Will they let you get up and walk around until the baby cooperates? Surely they will wait a few minutes for the baby to move the right way. What have your experiences been? Will they re-book you?

In my case, baby was stubborn and wouldn't open their legs! If that's the case, you may end up enjoying a nice surprise at birth like me.

They wouldnt usually re-book you just to find out the sex of the baby as they stress that they are not accurate any way.

They would only re-book you for another scan if there are any problems as the main reason for the scan is not to find out the sex but so they can carry out necessary checks on bubs and the fetal development.

Some Sonographers may ask you to take a little walk around the room or to empty your bladder... But if they cant tell... Im afraid its just tough luck unless you go private.

Xx

Usually if the baby is shy then you won't find out until the birth. I had poopy techs both times for both my 20 week scan with my son and this one. They didn't even try, just looked once and it was a no go, so I'm getting a 4D done at 31 weeks. I'll be finding out then. Good luck on your appointment! I really hope the bub decides to show you :hugs:

I was also wondering this, I have to pay for a private scan for the sex and I was wondering if the baby doesn't co-operate will they re-book it? x

I am not sure where you are from , England, USA or Australia. Over here many hospitals do not like telling you the sex incase it is wrong. Your 20 weeks scan is to check measurements and growth and that is what they are mainly concerned about, if they manage to get all measurements, it is doubtful they will let you get up and walk around in the hope baby gets over being shy, as there are other appoinmtents after you.

I was advised to have a mars bar or something sweet before my scan just to give a bit more of a chance of baby being awake and co-operating.

Good luck! x

Cheryl if it is a private sexing scan then they usually offer you another appointment.

I have my scan in 2 days and I am so scared that the baby wont cooperate! I really want to know the sex... I was wondering that too, if it doesnt can you book and pay for your own scan??

Im gonna drink a load of OJ before I go in cause that normally gets my baby rolling!

They usually try to get baby to move around/ask you to move. I was lucky as our sonographer couldn't be 100% at first, but we had to be re-booked anyway as they couldn't get the brain measurements due to Bethanie being quite low down. So good luck, but I think if they can't see then thats it. As said, you can get a 4D scan though and they will have a good look!
