im on my first cycle of clomid 50mg after having loads of annovulatory cycles.

ive heard that doctors only typically prescribe it for about 6 months. i dont mean to sound negative on my first cycle but im so used to not O'ing i just dont want to get my hopes up and wondered what would happen if i still dont have any success. some normal couples with no problems take a few months to conceive and if im only given 6 months help to O then i dont know what the next step would be.

im sure annovulation is my only problem, as i never have a thermal shift when i temp and my day 21 progesterone has always showed no O.

i was on ssri anti depressants for years and im convinced they have caused this problem as they contain prolactin and i think it may have raised my prolactin levels which can interfere with O.

im so happy to be given the chance to try clomid and i really hope it works for me and im lucky but ive heard stories from people who havent been successful on it and i feel this is my only chance to O

i was on clomid for over a yr with no success then i got refered to the ivf clinic im now 8weeks pregnant off my firsts cycle of ivf

Hi, 50mg didn't work for me, I had no mature follicles. Round 2 was 100mg and I had 2 mature follicles. If 50mg doesn't work, bump it to 100mg.

Are you having a scan about CD 12 or 14 to see if you have follicles? This will indicate how well you are responding and if the doseage needs to be increased. If you don't conceive on clomid I would expect your FS to do further testing such as a HSG or lap and dye op if you haven't had one of these already and then recommend IUI then IVF depending on the results. They will only prescribe clomid for a few months intially as you can only have clomid for a years worth of cycles in your entire life (this is what the fertility nurses told me!). You may have further cycles of clomid with IUI hence why only having 6 months intially. Hope that makes sense and good luck x

thanks ladies, i have been referred to the hospital so am waiting for appt.
is the dose normally automatically increased if 50mg doesnt work? x

i was on 2 tables from day2-day6 i was also put on metformin aswell

You most likely won't be on 50mg for the entire 6 months. Depending on how you responded, you'll either get bumped from 100 to 150. I've heard that 50 mg doesn't really make any difference. I didn't O either, or it wasn't detectable, on my first 3 months of clomid.

IF the 6 months of clomid doesn't work, it just depends on the doctor. Mine has told me we'll move on to injectibles after a few more diagnostic tests. Fx'd for you!

ETA: If you have the clomid side effects I did, you'll be begging to be done with it at 6 months, lol.

thank you, will see what this month shows! fingers Xd for us all x

I didn't O on Clomid. My dose kept being upped and then we added metformin that still didn't work. I stayed on the metformin and then switched to femara. It didn't work on the first round at 2.5mg. However I was so relieved to not have a headache and not feel side effects it wasn't disappointing. Then the next month we upped it to 5 mg and for the first time I Oed. I didn't get PG that CY, but the next CY I did. Then when TTC#2 I used the same dose of drugs of each metformin and femara and 3rd round I was PG. What a relief. Now I am TTC#3 and just as skeptical that the drugs will work as I was the first time.

I am on round 2 and questioning if I am Oing. I am using opk's that have only the faintest line. I know that I could easily miss the LH surge and still O, but finding it frustrating. I did get AF this last month with out provera. The only time that happened last time was when I was on femara. I don't know. I hate not knowing.

I didn't ovulate on 50mg, 100mg or 150mg...follicles didn't develop so doc reckons my body was resistant to Clomid. I had a lap last month and now am starting Gonal F injectables this week. Best of luck with the clomid though...hope it works!
