Well, me and dh had a bit of shock yesterday. We got a letter regarding his sperm test. We are due to see the consultant on Wednesday and I was expecting to get all the details then.

The letter has said as his test was a bit low he will need to redo it. :hissy:

Does this mean he has low sperm count? Or there wasn't enough sperm? What are our options if he does have a low count?

I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but this has totally thrown me.

aww chick try not to panic too much now, my other half had to do his twice and 2nd time was fine
xxxx

try not to worry - i'd guess that there just wasn't quite enough to test fully.

:hugs: honey & loads and loads of luck. My DH has his on thursday so i am here if you need to talk xx

Don't worry too much, a lot of things can affect the count. Try putting him on Maca...my DH had a low count, has to go for retest, hoping the Maca helped.:)

He was quite prepared to take Maca until we went to Holland and Barratts and they said they were going to cost £17!!!!!!!:dohh:

Even if the SA comes back low again, there are LOADS of things that they can do to raise sperm count or collect sperm. Stay positive. You have Lots of options and things will be fine!

As the girlies have already said, there's loads that can be done if his count is low. I don't think they take the results of one test as gospel though. If the second result was the same, then they would probably take it that your DH has a low count. Was your DH a bit under the weather 3 months ago, as this can affect his results? Try not to worry hun. My cousin was told he had a low count and was unlikely to conceive naturally, but two weeks later discovered his wife was pregnant.

Good luck hun

Hey Sinead

There is an NHS document that shows 98 out of 100 men will do a second SA and it will be 'normal'. My DH did his 1st SA and repeated it 4 weeks later as he was on meds and the GP wanted to see if this made a different.

Did the letter say what the count was? 20-99 million is 'normal' but they do say a healthy diet/wellman vits etc. can really help to improve things.... tried to get DH to put his testicles in iced water but he was having none of it

good luck chick - sure you will be A OK :hugs:

Rosh - the letter was really ambiguous, only said "...unfortunately, this is a little on the low side" We should get more answers on Wednesday (I asked you guys first to get a better idea before we see the consultant)

Hays - cheers for that, gonna mention it to dh and see what he says

Maz - now you mention it - dh was starting with a chest infection when he did his test and was given antibiotics 2 days later

Thanks for everything guys its been really helpful xxxx

Hey Sinead

'little on the low side'... that's nice of them! Any chance you can ring them up and get some numbers?

That isn't too bad though - if it is a little on the low side it can be cause by your DH having a cold/infection - things like that can affect the count.

Hope the re-test goes well chick xx
