What is your Vitex dosage?

Hi all,

I'm taking vitex to try and shorten my cycle. It's usually 31 days, and I found out that bc my luteal phase is such a long time (usually ovulate day 17-18), the Dr says the follicle is usually too big to be fertilized. I don't know. Anyway, I bought vitex and it says take once a day, but each pill only has 80mg. I'm confused bc I see women on here who are taking 1000mg a day - but usually that is bc they're missing periods or something that I'm not dealing with. I'm hoping someone has been in a similar situation as me and can suggest. My Dr doesn't believe in natural anything, and my naturalist doesn't want to talk to me about dosage. Help

Hi May! I took 400mg 3x per day... So 1200mg per day. I had trouble conceiving in the past and also wanted to shorten my luteal phase and try to promote ovulation (i didn't ovulate every month). I started it in early Nov and got a BFP on the first full cycle after (in Dec). It really seemed to work wonders for me. I actually felt my O that month!

Praying it works for you as well!!!! Good luck to you!

Wow! Awesome. Congrats. Thanks for sharing your success story!

I took 1600mg/day. Started late in a cycle as I hadn't ovulated and it made me ovulate and brought AF then I conceived the next cycle.

I'm not sure what your doctor means about the follicle being so big as the luteal phase is after you ovulate, so the follicle would have ovulated at that point. So your luteal phase being longer wouldn't effect the follicle.... It's not the follicle that gets fertilized. The follicle ovulated the egg which gets fertilized.

I will say that even though you have a long luteal phase, you are regular, correct? If you are regular and take vitex it can really mess up your cycles. It's meant for women whose cycles aren't regular or who don't ovulate as it works to "fix" the hormones making them irregular. If you're already regular, vitex will still be trying to "fix" those hormones and can mess them up since they don't need to be fixed.

Hi Kyla,
I think the Dr said bc my follicle is so large by the time I ovulate, the egg it releases probably won't be good enough to be fertilized.
Yes, I am pretty regular. I didn't know Vitex may mess that up! Eeek! Even though I'm taking such a small dosage? I don't know what to do.

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe because the follicle got so big it means the egg was in there longer so it's not as good?

I'm honestly not sure. I wouldn't think such a small dose would do much. Maybe do some googling and see if you can find anyone with better advice. I just don't know enough about what to do in your situation to help much. Sorry!
