I made cinnamon raisin scones tonight, for the first time ever, and they were AMAZING! But I always eat my scones with tea. Well since I'm pregnant I can't have certain teas, obviously. So I was wondering what kind of tea do you ladies drink now that you're pregnant?
So far the only kind I've had is decaf sweet tea.

i drink a lot of green tea, or green tea with lemon. sweetened ice tea on occasion, but i try to stick to the green tea because it has maybe 30 mgs per cup of caffiene.

you can drink 2 cups of tea a day as thats under the guideline of 200mg a day.

I like redbush tea, its caffeine free and tastes pretty much like normal tea but a little sweeter xxx

All the tea I've been drinking has been decaf, for the obvious reason lol but I guess I'm not very adventurous when it comes to drinks lol...
Sorry if that doesn't help >.<

I never knew that tea was bad during pregnancy. I use to crave it lots during pregnancy with my lo and he was born fine, i craved lemon tea. Good thing i dont crave tea with this baby. Might sound silly but why is tea bad? Im curious because i havent touch a drop of tea with this pregnancy.

The only reason I thought tea would be bad during pregnancy is because of the caffeine...since caffeine is like horrible during pregnancy...

its because of the caffeine content, you should only have 2 cups of tea or coffee a day. Its supposedly causes lower birth weight, but I think you need to drink an awful lot for that. I havnt really cut back, but its a personal choice :flower: xxx

Oh, I didn't mean because of the caffeine. :dohh: Sorry, I guess I should have specified. There are a lot of teas you're not supposed to drink while pregnant because the herbs are bad for the baby. Some can even cause a mc. You have to be very careful with herbal teas because of this.
flavored teas are usually fine, but any kind of herbal tea is supposed to be checked over with your doctor first. And since herbal tea was the only kind I used to drink, I was trying to get ideas on what kind of tea to drink.

Ah I see. Any of the fruit flavored are fine, just check they only have fruity bits in! chamomile, peppermint, green tea are also fine xx

If im not mistaken any you buy in tea bags from the supermarket are ok, as they will have to be tested etc. I think its when you make your own or use herbal medicine you have to be wary. Give your doc a quick ring and ask though, just to be sure xxx

Ah, thanks :flower:
I'm thinking of trying a nice raspberry tea. I've had it chilled, but never hot.

I just drink teatly (sp?) green tea, my Dr said two cups a day is fine, which is great for me since i only drink a cup before bed, makes me sleep better always has. I like having a warm liquid in my belly when i try to fall asleep.

Why specifically two? Different tea's have different caffeine content. Green tea tends to have 30 mgs per cup (it will say specifically on the box how much it has) and black tea usually has around 60 mgs. So with green tea, you can have about 6 cups and black tea about 3.
btw just curious. to each their own of course. oh and i was told just to beware of mega doses of herbs. she never said anything about not being able to have small amounts.

yeah try rasperry leaf tea, it's supposed to help to bring on labour isn't it?
"Raspberry leaf tea is thought to tone the muscles of your uterus (womb) to help it work better during labour. The idea is not so much to speed up your labour, but to help it to progress at a nice, steady pace. Because raspberry leaf tea takes several weeks to accumulate in your body, it won't work to bring on labour if you are overdue. "

I think its just to be on the safe side as some teas have more than others, if you know the exact caffeine content then you can work it out but most people dont xx

I was gunna siuggest rlt, but then I remembered you already told me you can't find it :haha:

xx

I'm hooked on red raspberry leaf tea now :D
Not only is it safe from 32 or 34 weeks (depending on who you speak to) it tastes great and helps with the second stage of labour apparently lol

i mostly drank oolong tea & british breakfast tea, i'm sure in moderation you can drink any tea you want though!

I've read in books and been told by the DRs that i've seen that pregnant women should limit their intake of green tea also. As it supposedly keeps your body from being able to process folic acid/folate properly. So, now when i want tea i mostly turn to white tea, black tea, or fruity herbal teas. i figure if that's the only caffeine that i'm ingesting on a semi-regular basis my baby will be just fine. Before i got pregnant with her i was a caffeine/ Mountain dew freak so i'm sure a couple glasses of tea won't hurt us.
