Ok so my top names are:

Surname is Woodruff, already have one DD called Evie

Firstly wondering about Olivia (how popular is this really-i know statiscally it's always top 5 normally 1/2 place but I've yet to meet any little girls called this in all teh places i've been/taken my 3.5 yr old)

Do you guys know loads? are there like 3 in a class?

Names:
Olivia
Rosie
Violet (dh hates)
Beth (dh dislikes)
Emily

I'd do a poll but no idea how.

ive heard of a few lil Olivia's just recently but i dont personally know any! Its a lovely name :)

I only had one Olivia in all my years of school and life. :) I think it would be ok.

My sisters name is Emily, and it has always been a top name here in Canada and I have only known my sister, one little kid down the street, and one other girl in highschool.

yeah its nice, i just dont want a class full as its no 1 this year!
like Evie has 3 Olivers at pre-school

Olivia is on my short list :)

I've seen it very common on the top baby name lists, but im still yet to come across on in real life!!
xx

There are two babies on my street called Olivia. If you like it though, I wouldn't let it put you off.

if you go to the office of national statistics website you can find the numbers of births registered in England and Wales in 2008 for each first name (2009 list not yet released). Olivia was the most common girls name in 2008 with 5317 registered births. The rest of the top ten were:
2. Ruby
3. Emily
4. Grace
5. Jessica
6. Chloe
7. Sophie
8. Lily
9. Amelia
10. Evie

oh i forgot Violet is my fave of your names, but since your dh hates it i'm guessing you may not pick that one!

Hi,
In my school there were 2 Olivias in the whole school (Nursery-Year 2) last year.
x

i know of 5 olivias i think its a beautiful name so its not suprising its popular

i love the name olivia - unfortunately oh does not..

I think Evie & Rosie sound sweet together -- and Rosie is pretty, commonly heard (so no reason for teasing), yet not overly popular

Olivia has been at the top of baby name lists for years -- so although i didn't know any in school -- i think in the next 10 - 20 years there will be 3 in each class in high school... (kinda like Stephanie, Brittany, & Ashley currently)

It's pretty tho, & if you like it... go for it!

Thanks everyone.....

DH seems to think its inevitable it will be Olivia....but popularity does pee me off. Evie was in the 60's when i picked it, now its top 10.

I prefer Rosie, I wanted to call Evie this but DH ex was called that, but its been like 7 years now so i dont see a problem. it will only be DH family and maybe his ex's that will take notice of it. But why should it matter.

If we were having boy it would be William and that was my ex's name too but both mine and DH's fav boys name.

The Olivers at pre-schol all have to get nicknames or called by their surnames. It really puts me off....i haven't met any little Olivias but they must all be somewhere

I was one of 6 Emma's my age throughout my entire school life, this didn't bother me in the slightest, and not one of us had a nickname, and were always refered to as Emma.

Up until a few years ago I was once again the only emma, until my OH's brother bought home his girlfriend.....you guessed it....Emma!

I think if you like the name Olivia, forget how popular/unpopular it is and go for it! I havn't yet met one at any of my daughter's playgroups, although I have met quite a few with it as a middle name.

It's gorgeous but yes very popular. I know at least three little girls called Olivia and I don't even know that many kids :haha: That shouldn't matter. On the other end of the scale, it's likely my son will be the only Arthur in his class but it wouldn't have stopped me calling him it, I love it and it's very special to us. Go with it! xx

Olivia was the #3 girls name in the USA last year. I can't step outside without tripping over them :winkwink:. It's a gorgeous name, though - in fact, that was the name I picked out in 1997 for my son (if he had been a girl). I had never known any Olivias at that point. I got it from a book!

I know 3 Olivias, although they are all of various ages (7, 3, and 8 months). It's a lovely name and goes well with Evie :flower:

i'm yet to meet any Olivias in my life, it's a beautiful name though! :flower:

I love the name Olivia!! :D
I think top names don't matter so much these days though, if you look back generations there were a selection of names everyone was called, whereas now people name their children almost anything - Apple for example!! xxx
