I went to a homebirth meeting last month and an independant midwife there was talking about a natural string or something, that she clamps the cord with. Has anyone heard of this and know where I can get one?

Or does anyone have any other interesting alternatives to clamping the cord with, rather than the hospital grade plastic peg?

The advantage as I understood, what that it was more like an elastic band and so less evasive than the peg. And it generally dropped off sooner.

There's another homebirth meeting on weds where I'll ask her about it but I can't help being curious in the meanwhile and I'm not having much luck on google!

Hi :) I've had doula clients use a cord tie instead of a clamp. The cord also clamps itself (google Wharton's Jelly) after a while. Another option is cord burning.

Here you go!

I'm planning on using embroidery thread plaited to make a cord tie.

It could be one of these. I've just ordered one for when I have my little one.

I used some embroidery thread plaited to make a cord tie... it looked good for maybe a day but then got a bit gross and smelly. I think I took it off not long after as it was sealed up anyway.

I also used plated embroidery thread to tie my 3rd baby's cord it was good as it didn't get caught on everything and just so much nicer than horrid plastic clip!
