Ive been booked in to have my c section in 5 weeks so I'm preparing my hospital bag. I'm wondering what I will need to pack to wear afterwards... or will they put me in a gown?

Also, once home, what should I wear? I was thinking of seam free maternity leggings as they'll come up above the scar and wont be too restrictive.

I've bought a pack of huge cotton granny pants several sizes bigger (non-maternity) but I'm a little concerned that if they're too loose they'll irritate the scar by moving/brushing over it. Would I be better off getting some proper post-op knickers?

Any clothes advice would be incredibly helpful at this point! Thanks in advance x

I think to depends on how you react to the op really. I didn't take anything "special" as mine was an emcs so I'd packed for a natural birth and did put need anything different.

They put me in a gown for the op then I got changed into a vest top and trouser pjs, which were fine for me. I also just brought cotton pants, in the same size that I wear normally.

At home I wore normal leggings as they were comfy, you're not going to want anything tight like jeans on. Or I just stayed in my trouser pj bottoms.

I know some ladies brought different things, but for me I didn't need anything different really.

Good luck for your section :flower:

I found that my pants would ride under my tummy and sit on my scar so for the first few days i would put a normal maternity pad under the elastic of my pants over my scar to protect it from irritation

i'm having my section wednesday, and brought one of these today https://www.amazon.co.uk/Underworks...969795&sr=8-1&keywords=girdle+after+pregnancy

also some big granny pants
i'm taking nighties and pjs see whats more comfy.
arnica tablets should help with the speed of recovery too.

good luck

I had an emcs 3 weeks ago so I hadn't packed anything special either, and didn't find I needed anything extra. I did find the net knickers that the hospital gave me a god send though, and even now my normal knickers sometimes irritate me by slipping down under my "tummy flap" and resting on my scar so I would just recommend knickers with a really high waist, and pj bottoms. Nothing tight like jeans or super tight leggings, make sure they are slightly loose. Also if you have jogging bottoms/sweat pants, make sure the waist line is high up so they don't make you sweat round your scar.

Hope that helps!

I'd agree with the biggest knickers you can find. I've been wearing normal leggings and have worn my maternity jeans from about two weeks post op as they were considerably looser. Four weeks post op and I'm ready to get into a pair of regular jeans again.

I too had an emergency section so didn't prepare. I lived in my pj bottoms for about a week and a half lol. After then I wore my maternity jeans for a bit. Even now at 4 weeks, my scar is a tad sore sometimes so if my jeans are putting too much pressure on my scar I use maternity pads left over to cushion it.

Defo agree with the others though - big pants! I wouldn't worry about yours being too loose, I found that they slid back down under my post baby bump anyway.

I was put in a gown for the op and kept it on for a good few hours after, then changed into a loose fitting nightie.
I knew I was having a section so I packed ALL night dresses (loose fitting) and just one pair of big PJ bottoms.
I also took loads of MASSIVE granny pants - they didnt let me wear any knickers immediately after the op, but later on that night I was allowed to wear my granny pants and they were a god send! I kept using them for about 3 weeks afterwards to avoid irritating the scar.

I lived in loose maxi dresses after the op for weeks. I'm now 5 weeks p/p and able to wear whatever I want now - the scar feels absolutely fine, I havent had any scar pain for about 3 weeks now. (It depends on how they close you up though - I had disolvable stitches)

Night gowns for bed are easiest. Depends for post partum - way easier then bulky pads and they sit higher then the incision area! Yoga pants for around the house, preferably the kind that can fold up higher to stay away from incision.

This may sound odd but boxer shorts are fab for after section!

i had the disposable pants from superdrug brought in normal size and the were perfect i didnt need bigger pants, and they didnt irritate my wound or anything ... deffinately loose trousers/leggins i made the mistake on the day i was discharged and put on skinny's , oh dear god it hurt like a bitch haha.. lets just say i didnt even get out of the ward in the jeans and went & put on shorts!

all the best and dont rush to do anything, accept the help ur offered.
Goodluck hun xx

I am probly going to buy a robe to go over my gown....
and big grannies too lol

maybe a maxi dress to wear home.....

with my 1st ds i had an emergency section so the knickers i had took with me which were big were not big enough and kept lying on my scar,so my mum had to run out and get me about 6 pairs of big granny knickers which were really comfy i wore these sort for a few weeks :haha:with my 2nd ds i was already prepared so bought the same sort again and will this time too,in hospital i wore a hospital gown for the sections and then while i had my catheter in a nice lose nightie once i was up and about a nightie and loose cotton pj bottoms, then at home i wore tracksuit bottoms or leggings or when not going anywhere my pj bottoms until my scar felt more comfortable, good luck with your section :)
