What was your first AF after miscarriage like?

I'm on CD5 of my first AF after an early loss at 5w4d on August 4 (completed naturally, confirmed hcg=3 and empty uterus by Aug 9). I have a lot more cramping and heavier bleeding than my usual AF, with lots of black clots and what looks like tissue. Is this just leftover from the miscarriage?

I am not surprised we didn't conceive this cycle considering all the yucky stuff that was still in there. I have a baseline ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow so I really hope the bleeding eases off by then.

How long did it take your AF to go back to normal after your loss?

Following because I'm still waiting for a period after my loss at the end of August, I'm nervous what it'll be like.

Wishn, my AF was the same as you are experiencing now. I just finished AF a few days ago and it was normal and it is my first after my m/c which, incidentally, happened around the same time as yours. AF was considerate and even came on time, 26 days later! It could be that a bit of tissue remained afterwards, not uncommon apparently and I did pass more clots than usual but otherwise, everything was fine. If you're passing clots larger than a quarter, I would recommend contacting your doctor.

I miscarried and had a D&C almost 5 weeks ago and I still haven't had AF. How long does it usually take?

I'm sorry for all of your losses.

Peski, you're lucky that AF came so soon after (can't believe I just said you were lucky to get AF?!)

My first AF started 34 days after my natural miscarriage started (usual cycle is 27-28 days). I'm CD7 now and it seems to be over. It was heavier with a lot of clots but they were small.

jcleary, I sure hope you don't have to wait much longer. Have you had any follow-ups to make sure your hcg levels have dropped?

I guess everyone is different, but when you get your first AF might depend on when your hcg drops back down. My hcg level was already down to 3 on CD5 and I got AF 30 days later.

I had a D&C on June 15 and I got my first AF 3.5 weeks later on July 8. It started out light but then got heavy for about 2 days. It also came on time that I usually get AF. I had a little more clots than usual but nothing out of the ordinary, it was like a typical AF for me. However, I now seem to have spotting before I get my AF which I never had before. My cycles are a little off, but nothing too horrible. I am not a patient person so it was very long 3.5 weeks. It's normal to have some leftover tissue/clots for your first AF. Although it's hard to say what is normal anymore since I'm used to my cycles being so regular.

I think I've had my first one, now. It's so different from my usual period that I don't know what to think. I'm sure I'll come back and post again if this turns out just to be more random miscarriage bleeding.

So, I spotted for about 5 days, leading up to a very light two day flow with maybe a couple of cramps here and there that were so minor, it was weird. (I'm a very crampy person during my normal period)

I'd like to hope that that was my period. I've always spotted for some days before my usual one, so that's the most normal thing about it. Otherwise, light and painless, with no clots... and I know that's the exact opposite of what everyone says it is going to be like, but that's what I'm seeing so far.

P.S. My miscarriage (at 5 wk, 6 days) was actually less painful than my normal menstrual cramps, as well. So, maybe that's somehow a blessing...

Update:
I ended up having another period two weeks after this that was more like a period. Still no cramps, but it lasted 6-7 days... it was still a bit lighter than my normal period before the miscarriage, but there were clots this time. It seemed more "normal."

Also, my normal flow is 6-7 days long, so this 2 day business is just odd.

I'm on CD2 now and my period came on day 41 with my normal cycle being 29 days. I was really surprised by how late it was considering my mc was at just 5+3. It's been a normal flow, actually maybe a bit lighter than normal with no clots at all, but my cramps are killer! There were a few times today were I sort of grabbed my stomach suddenly when a sharp cramp hit me. Honestly, I'm sort of hoping to get a bit of a heavier flow though because I want to make sure everything is really cleared up and ready for baby making this cycle.

I didn't have any clots, either, but mine was painless!
