My 5 month old has started watching us eat and pay an interest but I don't think he's ready yet to be weaned as he's not doing the chewing motion we've been told to look out for.

The other day I was having a tangerine and I held a piece in his mouth and he sucked the juice and enjoyed it.

I'm just wondering what's best to give him to hold and suck on till he's ready to be weaned?

Thanks

My boy is almost 4 months so nowhere near ready to be weaned but I have let him have a lick/suck of mango, strawberry, carrot, pear and grape. I have obviously been holding these things and made sure they aren't too squishy so he cant chomp any pieces off! I just wanted to try him with different flavours before different textures...sort of ease him into it all.

We are going to do BLW anyway so its probably a way off before he wants to actually eat but so far he has loved his few licks of things!

Regarding things for your LO to hold I am not sure! I would think hard things such as thick pieces of carrot/apple so theres no risk of lumps falling off but so the juice can still be sucked that may be completely wrong though!

Melon and banana are pretty harmless - you could give those a go?

I had this talk with the pediatrician last night. My son is 4m and 2 weeks I don't want to start him on solids yet but he seems so interested in new flavors and food in general, the pediatrician said it is too early to give him meals but it would be ok to give him a small piece of fruit to suck on when I eat some too, a piece of banana would be nice as a first taste. My son though prefers tartier tastes, he enjoyed 1/2 a damson plum the other day :) didn't actually ate it lol but he was sucking on it with great pleasure!

Thank you!!

My dad held some bread in his mouth last night and he was having a good suck on it!
A piece broke off and he was moving it around on his tongue, he didnt like that ha.
Then he must have swallowed as he gagged and then was sick and then he projectile vomited haha all over my dad haha

Oh lol poor grand daddy!

You could also purchase one of the baby food mesh things... So you can pop something juicy in there and they can chew/suck on it without the risk of choking

Got one of these from Asda. They are great for young ones, especially if you are worried about little bits coming off etc.
