whats does this mean: grade 2 placenta

hi,
Can anybody please explain what does the following sentence mean:

I had my 22 weeks scan on Monday and the report says the placenta is posterior, grade 2 with 28mm thickness.

What does that mean, is it something serious or everything is normal. Please reply!

I have no idea, but I'm sure if it was something bad, they would have mentioned it to you and told you how and why it is a problem.

Are you seeing a doctor about it hun? I didnt know whether to write this cos I know you will instantly panic but please dont, the reason I chose to is because I think you need to push for a bit of extra care, scans etc and if I didnt say that, then that would be wrong. Grad two means it a bit worn/aged, it doesnt usually happen until a bit later but I wouldnt panic, just speak to your healthcare professional.

Just had a quick google-toral google fiend-it refers to the ageing process of the placenta and from what I gather it's a better idea actually to get more info as it seems that should be for 3rd trimester-don't panic just ask your midwife x

I have my next appointment on 20th July, will clarify with him if he doesn't seem worried, because the lady who did my ultrasound said everything is fine and didn't mention anything else I would have tried to take an earlier appointment. Only today I opened the report and found this sentence.

Oh thats good I should think they will go through it all then. Has made me start thinking about questions as I see my consultant straight after my scan so thanks if you know what I mean!

Hi,
Just wanted to update. I had an appointment with the doctor for the routine checkup and I asked him about the grade II placenta, he told me that its indeed related to the maturity of the placenta and that it is fine and there's nothing to worry.

hi,
just thought i would update so that there would be info at this place about this, I had my 32-33 weeks (3rd) ultrasound day before yesterday and the report says grade II placenta still. Last time my baby was a little small for what she should have been for 22 weeks but now she was measuring big and a 90 percentile baby and already a 2.2 kg baby. Another 4 weeks to be full term.
