Hey.

I'm still breastfeeding at the moment but I wanna move onto some kind of cup. What would be the best I have a sippy cup but lo is finding it hard with free flowing. My hv told me not to bother with bottles and go straight to a cup.

What has others find good??

Interesting! We just got advice (for when the time comes!) to skip sippy cups and go from breast/bottle straight to an open faced cup. :haha:

I have had experience with the basic tommy tippee cups and they are great! (Simple, don't spill, babies grasp well etc). I think we will use a sippy cup for water at meal times and things like that. I think they say to skip as people put juice in and let the baby sip over long times, causing tooth decay... Otherwise I don't understand why advice would be not to use one if you so wish!). I am also sure that baby would dump the water out if given an open cup... And I think it is good for them to do themselves vs. me constantly meting out little bits.

Here is the cup I am talking about: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tommee-Tip...47676&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=Tommie+tippee+cup

...and thinking about it, these are doubly good: good as sippy cups, but would also work as an open faced cup with the top off. :)

I can't comment with regards to the breast feeding bit as by that age we had gone to bottles. That said, my daughter could not get to grips with a sippy cup. Bizarrely she coped better with a drinking bottle with straw. My son finds it easier as well. Maybe mine just struggle with the sippy cups!

My DD uses a bottle for ebm and formula, so I don't know about transitioning from bf to cups, but this is what we do:

We are teaching DD how to use a doidy cup. She's getting there but it's still sooo messy! We have a simple tommee tippee freeflow sippy for out and about, and at home in hot weather (so I can make sure she drinks the water instead of pouring it down her front!).

I'm aiming to stop pumping when she reaches a year old, and want to have her off formula and onto cows milk then, too. That means she will hopefully be off bottles entirely. I would LOVE that! She seems perfectly happy to drink water from her sippy but not sure how she'll be with taking her bedtime milk from it!

we used a straw sippy cup, she didn't figure it out the first day but the next day she did.

We are using an open cup right now and my lo is actually very good with it! I'm so surprised every time he drinks from it how well he does. I am obviously holding it for him and it is not really even messy. My goal will be to move to a straw cup once he's a bit older and hoping he will get the hang of that as straw cups are supposed to be really good for oral-motor development for both eating and speech, whereas prolonged use of bottles and sippy cups are supposedly beyond a year are not good for this. I think the straw cup will also be good for drinking on his own as he won't have to tip it back so far to get the liquid out. He is EBF and doesn't know how to use a bottle. We have tried some sippy cups but he doesn't get it. I think if a baby uses a bottle they would be much easier to figure out.

I would suggest doing a straw cup if you can, I have read it is best for mouth development for closed cups (as opposed to an open cups).
