A friend of mine had a mirena and said she didn't have a period on it....that would be ideal. Is that true?

I have tried various birth control pills over the years but I always have crazy break through bleeding while I am on any sort of hormonal birth control...

I also tried a copper T IUD and it worked, but I had the most horrendous cramps with it.

What are you ladies using, or what do you suggest?

Pros, cons?

I need to sort out BC here soon because I don't want to wait any longer....not having periods would be ideal. lmao

Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year too.
I had the mirena in 2011 until 2013 and had very mixed reactions on it. Hormonal wise it makes you a bit up and down.
I am awaiting AF and want another mirena put in.

It is a good idea to keep checking the strings location if you can as they *can* slip around and move completely. They may be expelled via the toilet and some people have 'lost' theirs and require further treatments and sometimes, surgery in order to remove them. Just bare that in mind. Doesn't scare me though - I know they like to insert it whilst you're bleeding (probably because your cervix will be open) so I'm hoping AF shows soon for me.

I have the implant in my arm. Been in there two years and pretty much no bleeding. PMT was bad on the pill before but no problem now. No weight gain either, though I am strict with food due to other medical issues.

Everyone's experience is different though.

I have the Mirena. When I was on the BCP (low dose estrogen) I didn't have any periods- no cramps- mild hormone changes... so it was lovely tbh. But, I was HORRID at remembering to take it- oops- thus, I finally took the plunge and got the Mirena (since that is what my OB recommends).

I have had one "real" period since having it fitted. Otherwise I have 4-5dys of very light spotting. No cramps. No bloating- but my hormones seem a touch more. Although coming off the pill 6mos ago could also be why? IDK. My skin is horrid too- but again, coming off the pill didn't help. And each month it's getting better. Otherwise I love the Mirena IUD.

Obviously it can really vary per person... I had my worries. But NO issues now. And least I don't have to think of it for 5yrs! :)

I've got the Mirena and I think it's the best thing since sliced bread!

Haha. Seriously. I had horrendous 7-8 day periods with heavy flow and tonssss of pains for at leaSt five days of it. I got this thing, and now my periods are ao light I'm not even sure I can call it that! Two days and the first is such a light flow I almost don't even need a liner. Second day is spotting that I only notice when I wipe. No pains. No cramps.

I love this thing! Def changed my life for the better!

If ur interested, here is my updated journey w the mirena.

Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hi I have tried the mini pill for 3 years (can't go on combined pill because blood clots run in my family) i noticed i had a period but they did not last as long and were alot less heavy / painful.

After DD was born i tried the contraceptive implant but had to get it out as periods would not stop at all, to point where i got a rash down below because of all the blood.

Now i am on the depo shot which ive been on since daughter was 2 months old (she is now 2 yr 5 months) and i haven't had a period, only small amount of spotting like twice a year
Good Luck x

btw pros of the depo is that medication does not effect it, it is only needed every 12 weeks and some people do not have periods.

Cons are that they can make you gain weight, sometimes periods are still there if not worse and also can weaken the density of your bones (but only when used long term)
