whats the difference between 1st stage formula n follow on?

Iron content and whey/casein ratio. The idea is that they still get lots of vits in a smaller volume if milk once weaning. Some people say its a con but you get offers and club card/boots points with follow on

My health visitor told me not to bother she said they should be getting all nutrients from food and at 12 months can have cows milk anyway. She said it was a con to make you continue to buy formula.

What the PP said. It's just more nutrients, especially iron, but everything I've read said that babies can't even absorb the extra vitamins/minerals between 6-12 months (when they can technically start on follow on milks, though first stage milks are also meant to be used to 1 year). Beyond 12 months, your baby should be getting plenty of nutrients from a health diet of solid foods. It's just a gimmick so you don't switch to cow's milk. We won't be using them.

I also disagree with health visitors that whole milk is more cost effective at 12 months. Going through 1.5 pints a day with my daughter we were spending about £12 a week whereas with toddler formula it was £7 every 2 weeks. Plus it has way more vits if you have a fussy eater!
