What's the norm as far as skin to skin /cuddles goes after c-section?

Hi all,

With my first section my son's blood glucose levels were quite low so he spent the night in the nursery away from me. I got to have a little 3 min cuddle whilst they were stitching me up but then he was taken away.

Can anyone tell me the 'norm' assuming everything is ok with baby this time around? Would I usually get to have skin to skin/ long cuddles?

Thanks

Congrats on your pregnancy.

In my experience, baby was taken with my oh to the dr straight after delivery, who was in the next room. They were gone for about two minutes, then one of the staff carried LO in the theatre again and passed her to oh to hold.

I didn't get any skin to skin or to hold my baby until I was on the recovery ward after being stitched up etc about half hour to an hour later. Then she was with me in a cot by my bed.

Good luck, I'm sure everything will go wonderfully

Xx

Congratulations!

I was offered to hold LO after she was taken under the UV, cleaned and checked over. Something didn't feel right in my own self so I told OH to take her. Next thing I knew I started to throw small fits and excess shaking - bad reaction to the anaesthetic. So glad I was able to say no at that point. Although, on my notes, it said I had skin to skin? So maybe I did but have no memory of it.

By the time I came round, OH had already gave her a feed which then I was wheeled from theatre with her in my arms. While in recovery when was in a bed next to me.

If you want skin to skin then the best bet is for you ask them once an all clear has been given unless they ask first :)

Yep im having skin to skin and they wont take him as long as everythings ok other than for 3 mins to do the checks then he comes straight back to me and dh... :)

After they checked Joshua over I was able to hold him whilst they stitched me up, couldn't have skin to skin though, he was wrapped in a blanket. After a few minutes I had a bad reaction to the anathestic and started violently shaking so my mum had to take him from me before he was then rushed off to the nicu when he started to struggle breathing x

Skin to skin was encouraged when I had Coralie, once they'd gave her a few quick checks my gown was yanked down and she was placed on my chest :cloud9: She stayed there for around 10/15 minutes iirc and then she was bundled off with DH back to the ward whilst they finished stitching me up. As soon as I got back to the ward it was skin to skin again and I had a nurse help me establish BF immediately.

Thanks all - looks like all being well I can push for skin to skin :)

I had a general but it took me 2-3 hours ro come to, my hubby said he was on my chest most of the time and the mw hand expressed me and fed him

Honestly, because I went into pre-term labor with placenta previa and didn't think to ask I didn't get any cuddles right after LO came out- they showed her to me, then got her all cleaned up and measured etc...then my hubby got to hold her and and put her right next to me. Then once they got me all back together and on my way back to my room they handed her to me. I'd recommend asking the doctor what they can do. I'm sure there is more they could of done had I just asked.
