what does this mean?

she's early 6 weeks old. the boob always settles her, if only for two sucks then nod off.

she's crying whilst on the boob. she hasn't slept today. tried boiled cooled water, wouldn't touch it. trumping badly, mind you i am. tmi, sorry. have i eaten something to upset her?

if i was ill do i carry on feeding as normal?

Try a sling.Do you have one? After I have tried everything a sling always works or I give Skyler to his daddy who is an expert soother!

Def keep feeding her as normal. She's about the right age for a major growth spurt, don't be surprised if she suddenly wants to be on the breast 24/7 for the next couple of days.

bugger. on the boob more? not humanly possible...lol

She may not be getting as much milk as she wants, and is getting frustrated. It will take a day or so for your body to catch up, but it will do so just be patient as she is giving your body the signs it needs to increase production.

she went down to sleep, after the most nigly day she's ever had, and god she can be niggly, at 9.30 pm and she slept til 6am OH MY GOD.

silly girl had tired herself so much with niggliness...!

I can sympathise with you my LO is 5 weeks and I think he's just starting a major growth spurt. I fed him this morning from 10am till 11:30am switching from one side to the other - I just didn't have enough milk to satisfy him so I had to resort to giving him a little formula. I've got some emergency cartons of aptimel in so he had about 50ml of one of those and is now soundly asleep (fingers crossed!). I had a similar kind of day on Friday but didn't give him any formula, I was tearing my hair out by the end of the day, he was awake from 11am till 8pm!!

I really didn't want to start adding in formula but what more can you do when they're crying for it all day? I feel a bit of a failure!

dont feel a failure! you are doing what you have to. I did the same around 5 weeks when i was too damn sore. We're over it now and back on boob full time. but it was such a relief to have cartons on standby for emergencies! i'd do it again if needs be - i always have some in the cupboard.

I know that it's really hard, but if you want to exclusivly breastfeed (not sure if you do or not) try not to top up with formula. It's good that he empties your breasts as that gives you body the cues to make more for him and within a day or two you'll have enough again. But if you top him up during a growth spurt your body doesn't get those cues and your supply won't increase as much as you need it to. A one off won't hurt but if you keep doing it you may well get supply problems.

thanks marley, cos i was just gonna make sure i had some formula ready!

she's definitely getting ready to grow more, feeding for longer but with less 'grazing', i'm gonna stick it out.

she hasn't manages to empty them today, so maybe my body's upped the demand already?

Well done! All sounds good - it doesn't take your body long to catch up. You're doing a great job.

she's still not emptying them...

i think it's over tiredness...she's fighting going to sleep...so seeing as the boob is not sending her off, i'm going to start putting her down without her being asleep..this normally results in her screaming, but if she's screaming anyway?????

she's been like this all weekend...:(
