My DS will be 2 weeks tomorrow and he has such dry skin - I'm wondering when would be the best time to start using some cream on him to help keep him moisturised? I have Johnsons/burts bees but obviously don't want to over dry his skin using products!
When did you start using creams/bubble baths etc? Xx

Right away. I use burts bees and just put some on my daughter here and there as needed, especially after a bath. She's 5 weeks old now and her skin is actually getting better, much less dry

I've used homemade lavender lotion every day on my DD since she started getting a daily bath around 6 weeks old.

Newborn skin often looks dry when it's not. It flakes abs that can be normal. Unless it's obvious eczema I'd leave alone at that age.

Id also leave it alone unless using a medicinal product like epaderm. Johnstons in particular is really bad for babies skin! We use oilatum in her bath and epaderm on her skin, and a little metanium on her bum if she has nappy rash (not routinely) - nothing else goes near her and she has perfect skin!

I've used homemade shea butter + coco butter lotion starting this week, but you can use any baby safe product any time. Even olive oil or coconut oil would do the trick

I never have. I used olive oil when they were teeny.

Despite being told not to i used baby lotion on my dd from day 1. We bathe her in Boots baby brands wash and used Boots baby lotion. Some nights i bathe her in johnsons bed time wash as its supposed to be soothing. Dont see the difference tho.

Even when i top and tail i use the same products.

Oopsie. Bad mum? 😦

We were told by midwives and health visitor to use olive oil in the early weeks. I think he was about 3-4 months when gp prescribed epaderm and oilatum.

I haven't had to, but I'd use coconut oil or olive oil if I needed to use something.

Yes, there's this too. Leo's skin did flake off all over the place, particularly on his scalp. This is normal.

I didnt start until about she was a week old. Doctor just told me no perfumed lotions for a couple weeks

Just use olive oil or coconut oil (unrefined virgin). I wouldn't use Johnsons on baby's skin as (surprising because it's a product for babies) it has a lot of bad ingredients in it.

This!

I stuck to oilatum or e45 (you can get bubblebath version if you really fancy it) and coconut oil for everthing else.
Sudocrem is the devil - it doesnt really allow skin to breathe its so heavy.

I never used any creams with my first as she had very sensitive skin.
With my second we just used coconut oil and it cleared up his dry skin :)

I put coconut oil on our newborn after a bath. But we only bathe her 1-2 times per week because bathing can dry out their skin. We also fill her bathtub with water from the shower, which has a chlorine filter installed, this can help as well.

We also use a soap which utilizes a variety natural oils (Dr. Bronner's unscented hemp). Then after we dry her off, I rub a small amount of coconut oil on her skin. And a bit on her face and scalp.

But as other's have said, it's normal for newborns to have some flakes.
