When did you transition to a toddler bed?

My LO is now 16 months old and seems to sleep comfortably in her crib. However, I noticed sometimes she turns sideways and obviously gets caught up in an awkward position that makes her uncomfortable. She eventually always finds her way back to a vertical position, but I'm just wondering…when should I transition her from her crib to a toddler bed? When did you transition your LO?

If she is sleeping happily, I would absolutely leave her. My almost 2 year old is still in a cotbed with sides on, and will be in there for as long as she sleeps well in it. She also ends up in all sorts of positions, but doesnt affect her sleep x

Ds1 was almost 3 when I moved him, he slept well and never tried to climb out so I was happy to leave him. Ds2 is 19 months and I have no plans to move him out until next year when ds3 will need the cot

DS tried an escape attempt at 18 months so we had to take the sides off then.

My dd was 20 months when I put her in a "big girls bed"

We did it at 18 months and I would have done it even earlier, but she'd only started to walk confidently at 16 months and then we were traveling a lot at 17 months. I think cots are awkward and we mostly bedshared anyway, so it was nice to move to the toddler bed. She took to it really well and it was a smooth transition. She has had periods of not sleeping well or getting up out of bed since (she's 2.5 now), but it was later on and would have been even more of a hassle to deal with in a cot with all the settling and lifting in and out. I think do it if you feel ready. If we have another baby that was walking earlier (that was my prerequisite to making the transition), I would do it earlier next time.

Dd1 was about 19/20 months old. She climbed out of the cot twice, but the second time she flipped over and landed on her back so DH decided it was time to move to the cot bed. I'd have kept her in longer if it hadnt become too unsafe. Dd2 will stay in the cot until she also manages to climb out. That being said, dd1 continued to sleep really well even when we put her in the cot bed xx

Dd is 20 months. I'm thinking of the transition but not yet. I think for me the push is if she starts trying to climb out, that's when we'd for sure have to take the sides off. But for now I'm leaving the matter be.

DS is 26 months and has never tried to climb out so we are leaving him as long as possible. I'd much rather have a happy healthy sleeper than have him wandering out of bed as he pleases in the night. I think we are going to try the transition at around 2.5 - 3 years old, maybe after the holidays.
