When did your transverse baby turn?

I just had my 28 week midwife appointment and the baby is transverse, she's been in that same position at least since the 20 week scan. She's very active but I can always feel her back in the same place so don't think she turns around much, she just squirms and kicks a lot which at times feels rather uncomfortable.

I know there's still plenty of time for her turn on her own so I'm just curious really, if your baby was transverse when did they turn? And at what point do they start discussing ECV or section if she doesn't turn on her own? Is there anything I can do to encourage her turn turn, bouncing on birthing ball or something?
I won't be having any more scans and my next midwife appointment is at 34 weeks, hopefully she will have turned by then.

Thanks!:)

I wouldn't worry at all. This baby is still all over the place. He turns around several times a day even though he's been head down at each scan. Things that helped turn my son at 37 weeks last time:

- Sitting with wide hips on a birth ball. Do figure 8 with hips.
- being on hands and knees, letting belly hang to the floor. (Think about creating a "hammock" with your belly.)
- Walking
- Squatting

Thanks for your reply. I'm not worried yet but would be nice if the baby turned as her current lie is getting quite uncomfortable for me, it hurts to walk these days. :(
Will definitely get a birthing ball, from what I've read those are good to have anyway.

Mine was transverse at 26 weeks. Breech at 29 weeks. Just got back from my 32 week appointment and baby is head down. Woohoo!

That's great! I hope my bubba will be as well behaved!:)

I had too much amniotic fluid with my 2nd baby back on 2012 and she kept flipping all over the place. They induced me while she was head down to give me the chance at a natural birth and she flipped transverse while in labour:(
Due to her position go ended up with a vertical csection which means I am always a repeat csection for all my kids now.
Not saying that to scare you. Generally speaking babies can move right up until 35-38 weeks. My last baby was also breech and seeing my chiropractor, for my adjustments and specifically an adjustment to release the tension in the pelvis, allowed my son to turn head down. So I highly recommend that. Also get on your hands and knees and wash the kitchen floor. Sounds weird but it's the perfect way to get baby to move into position!!!

My daughter turned at the last minute. In fact, everything about my first labor was last-minute: dilation, effacement, etc. She was transverse forever! Then I don't know when, maybe 37-38 weeks?, she turned and was born at 39+1. I dilated and effaced very very quickly and the whole labor + birth was 2 hours, 42 minutes. So I say don't worry. It can happen late and everything can go well.

I didn't do anything special to get her to turn... it just happened. Some babies are more impatient than others!

My friend also had a transverse baby who turned around 36-37 weeks I think.

My baby still goes back and forth from head down to transverse. At 35+1, I was in the hospital and when my OB checked me for dilation, so couldn't feel a head, so she pulled out an ultrasound machine and sure enough, baby was transverse. She then had me go empty my bladder, and when she checked again, he was back to being head down. I just hope he doesn't pull a stunt like that when I'm about to give birth!

Thank you all for your responses.
My first baby engaged early at around 32 weeks but don't think this baby has any such plans. Must be all nice and roomy there for her to sit so comfortably sideways! I think she's been in this position the whole time but fortunately it's still early days and plenty of time to turn.

Jenmcn1, our kitchen floor needs a good scrubbing so I think I'll do that if the baby is still transverse when I start my maternity leave!:)

ChocolateC were they not concerned at all about your baby being transverse so late? I stupidly went to google and found all these horror stories about cord prolapse and people being hospitalised just in case at 37 weeks. Should never ask google, especially when my baby is still very likely to turn on her own.

Spiffynoodles good luck with your labour, not long to go for you now! I hope the baby stays head down and everything goes smoothly.
