Start to hold their bottles themselves?

Just curious really. LO puts his hands on his bottle but in the wrong place atm bless him. He has them too far at the top lol.

How old was your LO when they started to hold their bottles and then feed themselves?

Francesca never did! She would put her hands on it though as if supporting it. I didn't really want her to either because I loved our snuggle time, but now she's on a beaker she feeds herself. I remember reading somewhere a while back that it's best if they don't learn to hold the bottle themselves because it can be harder to break the attachment when the time comes to wean them onto beakers x

Finn 'holds' his bottle, e.g. helps me or OH, but never really correctly, e.g. we use small NUK bottles (up to 5oz) and he doesn't have the coordination to hold at a steep angle to get that last oz or two out! But, I have been 'introducing' the sippy cup (without the lid) for him to get used to and he holds that easily, so I think helping hold, rather than actually holding, might be good practice for later with big boy/big girl cups, etc.?

best wishes

My boys cup their bottles with their hands but nowhere near holding.

My friends boy at 13 months still doesn't but another friends 8 month old twins do.

Personally I'm looking forward to it the 5 tandem feeds a day are getting harder as they get wrigglier.

Omar held his bottle few times when he was around 8 weeks for a min. But he never showed interested again. He started to hold it at 20 months but again he wasn't so interested. He was weaned off the bottle at 23 months xx

We have a few different brand bottles and some of them are small enough in circumference for my son to hold with one hand. Lately when I hold him and he drinks from a bottle, he takes one hand off the bottle and pats me lovingly with the free hand!:cloud9: It's so sweet!

But for your question! ha ha, he could hold the bottle fairly well at 5-6 months. Even holding the bottle, he liked to be held.

Megan never would hold her own bottle. She held sippy cups from 6 months though. She was done with bottles by 12 months and never did once hold it herself.

Ds son is trying to at 5months. I think he will be holding it before he's suppose to. He has hit every other milestone way before he was suppose to.

My DD2 still doesnt at 12 months! She is happy to just chill lol xxx

Same with Earl too.
