When I was little we would get up in the middle of the night - probably about 2am... as I got older we tend to wait till like 1 second after midnight cos we can't wait :dohh:
but we're going to have to grow up now! :baby:

So, even though lo will only be 6 months at xmas I'd rather start now as we mean to go on every xmas - so would you suggest going to bed then getting up middle of the night, would she ''get'' the excitement in doing that?- or is it best waiting till actual morning like 9am or something so we are all fresh for the day?

god, I cant wait now :happydance:

As kids we opened ours at like 5am but its slowly gotten later and later and now its more like 8am but no presents get opened until i have a cup of tea

we get up at 7.I normally have to pounce on my kids though lol

we normally get up at 6 ish after spending every hour awake clock watching!!

If I have to get up at 5am I'll be a wreck - at least by 2am I havnt been to bed yet - 9am is still pushing it, I'll be asleep by 9pm - I could never do the waiting till after dinner thing though... wondering if would be ok for a kid to open it's presents at 1 second past midnight as it's worked for us for years....

will a 6 month old be excited by presents then? I dont suppsoe xmas is going to be exciting for her for a couple of years yet. I have a feeling it will be us with the most excitement ;)

I'd just wait and get up when she wakes up hunni,as she gets older she will be up early on xmas morning but at 6months wont really understand whats goin on.....

we had a no presents before 6 a.m. rule, I don't think my mom wanted to get up any earlier

this year we'll do presents after Hannah's up and fed (she's a grump until she's eaten)

I wouldnt wake her up if she's sleeping to open presents chick!! She'll just be grumpy-it'll completley mess her body clock up and it'll ruin all the excitement!

If you're super super super excited, why njot start a tradition of opening some presents the night before? think new PJ's is a popular one? that way you've seen her open something just to delay it a bit :flower:

all the excitment of present opening will be over for you by 6am otherwise. . .then what will you do for the rest of the day?

BUT, this is just my opinion-and if you WANT to get up at 2am and open your presents, then I say go right ahead! She's your baby! :cloud9:

I think you should get up when LO wants to otherwise you'll have a grumpy baby ALL day which won't be fun for anyone. That's what I'm gonna do anyway :) Wait until Amelie wakes up, give her milk and then open a few presents then have breakfast get dressed, family will come round, more present opening :D Then nap, Xmas lunch etc etc

My sister abd I used to wake up around 5am, sneak into the others room and open our stockings (they were hanging in our room and Santa came in the night) then go back to bed. In the morning we had to be dressed and everyone had to have breakfast then my dad would get them out from under the tree and hand them out one by one in turn and we all watch the person open and say thanks etc. It made it last like an hour instead of 10mins and you got to see what everyone had.

Doubt it.
Amber wasnt as excited as thought she would be she was 7 days from being 1.
I think this year will be different though.

We were downstairs for about 8am.

Our kids were up at 4am last year... It's the only day of the year DH will budge out of bed without a fight

Hahaha, it is funny to know everyone getting up so early. We just open presents when we are all at my mum and dad's, not really a time.
Our big thing is Sinterklaas, on the 5th of december. It is different because the evening is the actual opening of the presents, so here children can't wait till it is dark because then there might be a knock on the door.....

When i was younger i used to wake up around 5am but i would nevre be allowed down stairs before 6am and before my mum and dad have been downt to check if santa had actually 'been' lol so id always go in their bed untill we got up...

We always wait now untill weve had a cuppa and 'woke up' a bit before we open pressies.

I cant wait untill maisies old enough to understand and gets excited!

In the late afternoon/early evening of the 24th of december (traditional German ). Many people go to church before hand which is mostly at 16:00h (I don't go there anymore though but its nice for children because it is the childrens maternity play)
We meet at my parents place with my siblings and their respective partners and everybody has to play something on the piano, or say a poem etc before the opening of the presents, and usually we do it like that that one person goes to the tree and brings another person a present , and after that this person brings another person their present.

at about 19:00h mostly there is the Christmas dinner.
25th and 26th is mostly for visiting the other half of the family and for visiting other relatives.

On the morning of Christmas eve the Christmas tree is getting it's decoration .
and between that and the time to go for presents the rliving room is restricted ^^
When know we are allowed to come when my mother plays the carol'Ihr kinderlein kommet' (cometh ye Children) on Piano.

I have here a picture of a christmas tree 2 years ago.

we always used to open 1 prezzie at midnight (normally pjs) and then wait till about 7 the next morning to open the rest. Dad would never get out of bed though and we were always waiting ages lol.

This will be my 2nd xmas not living at home :( so ill get up when i want lol. OH will not be getting up till midday (he is too lazy) so ill probably watch a few films before prezzie opening :) xx

i have a cuppa in bed with a few biscuits before we go down & open prezzies, we put a small stocking at the end of the girls beds so they have something to open as soon as they wake up. Last year my hubby dressed up as santa, Reese was amazed, definately the best day of the year by far!

When we were kids we'd wake up really early but we weren't allowed to open presents until we'd had breakfast. It was hard forcing down weetabix with all that excitement, haha! But I like the tradition so we do it now too. We always have one present on Christmas Eve though to try and abate the excitement a little.

we were never allowed out of our bedrooms until 8am. drove me insane- clockwatching from like 4am, but now I deffo think it's worth it, my kids won't be allowed up until 8am either!!
