When does your doctor say to take low dose aspirin?

I am a bit confused - some say everyday - all month - others say only after a pos test:shrug:
I have been taking low dose aspirin and 5 mg folic acid all month - just as a precaution my doctor said.... Could that be bad if it turns out I do not have a clotting disorder?

Hi CedarWood

I have had 3 cycles of IVF ... First time I got my :bfp: without taking aspirin ... unfortunately it ended with a MC. So second and third times, I took 75mg aspirin in the hope that it would improve my chances, however I got :bfn:s.

I'm not saying that it was the aspirin that caused me to get the :bfn:s, but I have since had blood tests done to check for sticky blood, and the results were negative ... hence I have been told NOT to take aspirin, as there are some studies that point towards it possibly being detrimental. Who knows though? You read one study which says it helps, you read another that says it makes no difference, and you read another that says it could be counterproductive. I guess the best thing to do is get the blood test done first to see if it is something that is needed.

Good luck with everything ... I hope you get your :bfp: very soon.

xx

Mine told me to take it all the way through, either way I miscarry so Im of no bloody use to you! The aspirin is suppose reduce the incidents of blood clots and also help break down certain protiens that may stop implantation, again apparently! I take 100mg each day I think simply because we have no lower dose here in Australia, all the rest seem to say the 75mg mark. Ive now been given heparin shots when I fall pregnant again, the way he explained it is that sometimes you implant but all the blood vessels etc just dont form particularly well causing the body to abort, things like aspirin and heparin get the blood flowing so the embryo gets a chance in the early stages to latch on properly so to speak. Ive been tested for blood clotting disorders and Im all clear and he has taken the next step of heparin for the reasons of encouraging better implantation. Sorry for the ramble and if it makes no sense!:haha:

This is an interesting topic. I am considering taking asprin with my next cycle, but have heard not to take it unless a clotting disorder is proven. My clinic won't test me as I don't have any evidence of it (apart from 1 mc, and 3 years of infertility).

There are girls on here whose clinics tell them to take it anyway, from egg collection up until test date, then carry on for the 1st tri if pregnant. I can't see that it would be detrimental if clinics are prescribing it routinely to everyone.

But then again, no one wants to do something that might be detrimental!

What are other peoples experiences on this one?

I have really not idea when it comes to ivf, I mean you pin so much on it I would be doing excatley what they want to get the most out of it! Ivf wont help me, perhaps thats why the doc is going for the aspirin and the heparin, last go at trying to get a sticky, he said if the heparin doesnt work I should consider giving up, which of course is not in my vocab just yet! I just know that as far as for clotting disorders, thats not why they have perscribed it for me.
