You may have read form my posts that i am die my lo around the time of my exams and im in two minds wheather to bf or not. Im a real panicker so would like to have a stockpile ! when would i be able to start freezing my milk? I will be in the house alot but when im out or at am exam etc i think i would rather bottle feed with the breast milk

It's recommended to leave it until 6 weeks and your breastfeeding supply is established.

Remember that if you choose to BF then you'll be tied to the sofa for the first 4-6 weeks - a great opportunity to study! lol

When I was in hospital overnight the first night I was told to try and hand express the colostrum as Byron wasn't feeding too well because of sicky mucous. I've since expressed by hand and pump on a couple of occasions. I'm not sure why expressing should make a difference to the feeding. It keeps your breasts stimulated to continue producing milk. If you're worried about bottle feeding then don't, give the breast milk in a little cup. Babies will lap at it if you sit them up and put it to the mouth. That way the baby won't get used to the teat that can interfere with the ability to latch on to the breast.

To be honest when I attempted to BF the beginning was hell and there was no way I could have studied... PLus you have to feed constantly.

Some people recommend waiting 6 weeks to express, however, there are lots of people who express from the beginning and are successful.

Do what you feel you are comfortable with.

I don't think it's the expressing you need to wait with, but the giving the bottle.
