Got my BFP this morning (yay). When should I go and see my doctor routinely? Do they need to see me before 12 weeks? I am 38 and on my first pregnancy.

Congratulations! :happydance:

From memory (pregnancy brain kicked in some time ago!) I called straight away, I was also 5 weeks along. Generally you'll be seen for a "booking in appointment" with your midwife or gp (different local authorities do different things) for 6-8 weeks. Turns out the midwife at my local surgery couldn't fit me in so I booked in with the midwife at the local hospital ante natal clinic.

The booking in appointment took about an hour, in depth medical questions for me and dh to establish anything that might me high risk etc and then I got my scan letter a few weeks later.

Better to call them on Monday just in case your midwife is as busy as mine!

Good luck

hi there i am also 38years old and am 7 weeks pregnant with 1st baby, i have not been to the doctor yet as i have had 2 miscarriages how are you feeling and by the way congratulations hun xxxxxxxxxxxx

I called my midwife straight away. They'll likely schedule to see you around 8 weeks to check your dates and talk about tests and go over medical history, etc. At least here they do because if you want the NT scan it needs to be done around 12 weeks and they need to make sure they do it at the right time for the results to be accurate.
I was 36 for my first and am 39 this time, so the care has been the same for me both times since I was 'over 35'.

Congrats! :) I'm 38 & pregnant with my first as well. I'm currently 5 weeks. I will give a call on Monday. When I was pregnant last year, they had me come in around week 8 to ensure that everything was coming along well.
