when to change teat size??

just a quick question, Ollie still uses the first size of teat n seems to be feeding fine on these (apart from having oral thrush :'() but when do i change to the next size up???? i am clueless about all things bottle wise as i wanted to BF so never really looked into it....prefer advice from you ladies than googling it! lol thanks in advance xx

hiya not sure this will be much help to you but i changed ollie to vari flow teats which basically allow more milk out the hard he sucks i think i changed him to these when he was about 6 weeks as it was the time he moved onto comfort milk which is thicker so couldnt come out size one teats...other wise i think it says 3 months on size 2 teats xx

i think nother clue is if he falls asleep during his bottle its time to up his teat size because hes working too hard tho if hes managing ok i wouldnt mess with it the now just incase it backfires xx

As bump-wanted says, I moved up when he started taking ages to finish a bottle, seemed to be getting frustrated and falling asleep before he finished it, then waking up hungry again as he hadn't taken enough milk. Go by how you baby seems with the teat I would say, rather than the ages it says on the packets. It does depend on what type of bottles you use. I think Tommee Tippee have variflow which can be used all the way through. The others I think have different flow teats. I use Dr Browns and had to move up from newborn to 3 months+ at 8 weeks and am still doing fine with these at 5 months. Will move to 6 months+ when he starts to show the signs I mentioned at the beginning of the post. Good luck, I was like you and hoped to BF and knew nothing about FF - it's a steep learning curve!

freddie has been on the TT CTN vari flow teats for 3 weeks!!! hes only 5 weeks old and a 4 week prem baby. He has comfort milk and get on just fine with these teats, ollie will be fine at his age with them. They seem good, the more they suck the more they get. Fredster never had a problem.

I was a wanna be BF too, so know nothing about teats either. I think the TT medium etc teats are for 3+ but the variflow are from birth. Give em a go!! xx

We are still using stage 1 at 5 months old. The stage 2 are way too fast for her still. It does take her a bit to finish a bottle, but she chokes on the stage 2.
