When to expect my period?

Hi all,

I have a question as I am somewhat new to this… I posted in ovulation tests but thought TTC would be a good area to get some insight also.
I normally have a 28 day cycle but this last month went to an acupuncturist for the first time and he told me that I would ovulate from 4-7 days after the end of my period. I had never heard this so I got an ovulation test and sure enough I ovulated 4 days after my period ended- so 10 days after I started my period…instead of 14 like I have been thinking it occurred. So now do I expect my period 14 days after ovulation occurred or count 28 days from the beginning of my period? I know it is confusing but figured you ladies have experience and could maybe help me. I just want to know what date I can test for pregnancy on…or at least know if I am late!

Thanks!

Normally the luteal phase (after ovulation) length stays about the same from cycle to cycle, regardless of when you ovulate. So if you know how long your LP is then just add it to 10 and that will be your expected AF date. A 28 day cycle doesn't necessarily mean that you ovulate on day 14 and have a 14 day LP, these are just averages. For example, someone could ovulate on day 16 and have a 12 day LP to make a 28 day cycle. If the acupuncture caused you to ovulate early, it might change your LP length somehow too but it probably would just stay the same as it was. The usual recommendation of when to test is on 18 days past ovulation, as by this point you should have easily detectable levels of hcg and will get an accurate result, whereas testing early might give you a false negative. But who can wait that long haha. :) Hope that helps!
