When to wean?

I've decided to breastfeed for at least a year, but my son has been giving my hell at the breast for over a month now. It's almost as if he is done with breastfeeding. It started after we introduced cereal and got worse with solid food. What are some signs that your child is ready to wean? I've heard that six months is too young for them to even think about weaning...but it really seems like that's what it is. We have been to his ped over and over about this, but they can't find any reason for his behavior.
