Good Morning everyone,

I'm fairly new to this... TTC for 14 months. No male infertility, and no female problems.

We chose IUI last month while taking Femara. It didnt work out and I guess my question is, where do we go next?

Insurance doesnt pay for any of it, so its not cheap as some of you may know. I'm going to call RE today, but before I do I want to get your opinions on what my other options may be. Can I up my Femara or try another drug? Just not ready to move onto IVF.

Hi. What is Femara? I have 'unexplained infertility' - TTC for 17 months since mmc Feb 08and have just been prescribed clomid, which I start next cycle. Loads of women on here take it and it seems to have a good success rate. Has your Doctor mentioned it to you? Good luck... X

I think clomid might be your next port of call before IVF.

Ive been TTC for approx 32 months and was prescribed it last month - not starting it til Sept. I Ov'd on my own but FS said it might help. After that its IVF for me.

Good luck Reba, I hope you don't need to start the clomid but if you do then I am sure it will do the trick. I hope you won't think I'm too nosy but how come you have only now been prescribed it? Will you be taking anything else in addition? For me it's just clomid but it seems a lot of people take other drugs at the same time? I'm just being a worrier really, I have built it up in my head as being a miracle cure and if it doesn't work for me I just don't know what I'll do next. I had an HSG last month, I am still kind of hoping that will have made a difference; though I haven't noticed anything out of the usual so far nd so I am fully expecting the witch to show up soon. Have you had an HSG? X

Hi Hope - I was only prescribed it recently because the FS that I saw last year wouldnt give it to me (as Ov'ing on my own) but I went private to a different FS in May who booked me in for a HSG and gave me a prescription for clomid too (she told me to take clomid if HSG was clear - which it was thank god). I had the HSG in JUne (i think) and i'm just on my 2nd AF since then and no luck getting pregnant so think I'll just start the clomid now instead of waiting til September as Ive been speaking to a few people on here today who are telling me to go for it and not wait as there will never be a perfect time to start.

Im having a pretty bad AF this cycle too (clots, pain etc) so hoping the clomid will help with that also.

I wont be taking any other drugs with the clomid - im scared enough taking it alone but I have read that its just a mild fertility drug that has been around for 30 years or more so hoping it wont have any adverse reactions or anything like that.

When are you starting the clomid?

I do agree, may aswell start now as there will never be a perfect time. I'm a bit scared too as I really dislike taking any drugs - and I have heard that a lot of people suffer mood swings which worries me (because I know it's my poor OH who will get the brunt of them) but when all is said and done; I am so ready for my BFP I'll do anything! Sorry the HSG didn't produce an immediate result for you but I have read a few posts on here from ladies who got therir BFP in 1st cycle with clomid so we have hope. Actually, there was a post yesterday from someone who had an internal and was told how many eggs they would release and what size the follicles were! Will you get that as you are private? I won't as I am on NHS but I think it would be awesome! I will just have a blood test to confirm ov. X

Btw, my af is due in the next few days and so I will start clomid within the week, if she comes! I don't know if I always ov - 1 blood result said I did but the next 2 were borderline and so the FS said "let's treat it as though you don't" and prescribed clomid! I was worried that I don't get much cm but he didn't want to discuss that at all, he acted as though it wasn't an issue? I don't think he was very good tbh.

Femara is another fertility drug. It is newer than clomid, but what Ive heard it has less chances for multiples and has less hormones that make you crazy. Well, I think Im already crazy with this whole TTC thing :dohh: So might as well go to clomid after all!!

I had an HSG done in May, all clear thank God. But I'm ready to move on. I know its only my first cycle with Femara and first time IUI, but I just feel better changing things in hopes for better results. No male or female fertility issues with us.

Are there different doses of Clomid? Why do some RE's do 1 IUI and some do 2 IUI's a month?! Wouldnt doing 2 make more sense?! I only had one.

Oh AND I had 3 eggs ready this time around. Sizes were 19, 15 and 16. That was 24 hours before trigger shot. RE seemed like those were great numbers. Would upping my dose in Clomid give me a better shot with more eggs or bigger?

Hi Raye. I really don't know the answer to most of your q's but I do know there are different doses of clomid. I will have 50mg but I have heard of people taking 100mg and 150mg. Are you sure you don't want to try Femara for one more cycle? I can't help but think you wouldn't have been prescribed it if your doc didn't think it was best for you?
Hugs though, TTC is the worst thing in the world and I wonder at times that any of us are still normal, functioning human beings! Will you try IUI again? I have never heard of anyone having 2 IUI's in a month and I don't yet know much about it but it sounds logical to me that it would help! Oh, if I was a rich girl I wouldn't think twice! X

Well, I had a choice between the two. I chose Femara because it has less chances of multiples, and some say it makes you less moody :growlmad:
haha. Well it doesnt matter about mood, cause Im pretty damn moody today hahah.

I agree. I have a sister in law that went through this for 2 years. IUI's didnt work, finally went to IVF. Just had her twin girls last week. It must be like a dream for her. I never knew how awful it was. It's a feeling that you cant really describe. And I wouldnt wish it for ANYONE.

I want to try IUI again. I feel like putting our chances a little higher each month would be better than not. But our INS. pays for NONE of it, and its not cheap. I have til tomorrow to decide (that will be my day 2). As of now, Im so over it
I dont even want to try anymore. If it happens great. If not, fine. But Im stubborn. I guess I will talk to my husband tonight and we can come to an agreement. he was more upset this morning when I told him AF arrived than I thought he would be. More on the mad side, you know men :winkwink:

Some people have the IUI like 12 hours after trigger and also 24 hours after trigger. It seems to me like x2 your chances!

Hi RayeAnne - I completely understand your frustration sweetheart. Here are some thoughts after reading your posts.

First - have you had CD3 labs done? You mention a hsg, but not labs - this is something your RE should do before anything else.

Second - what is your hubby's sperm analysis like?

Third - one IUI is not enough to judge in your case. I am about to start my third cycle, its all probabilities honey, that's all.

Fourth - clomid, I am taking it, 150mg, I ov on my own, its to up the chances of pregnancy.

If I were you I would get the labs, take clomid, and try timed intercourse for a month to give yourself time to work out what you want to do going forward.

I have not had CD3 labs done. What is that for? I know we CAN get preggers, we have a 7 year old son. so.... :winkwink:

I cant remember the EXACT analysis, its at home. But RE gave him a 'B' said it was fine. Maybe not perfect though. I will get them and let you know.

So, what does a higher dose do? I took Femara. And not a high dose at all. My follies were 19, 16 and 15 about a day before I triggered. Should I have expected higher numbers? Would a higher dose of Clomid do that?

And thank you SO much for the advice, Lord knows I need it.

:hugs:

Hi Hope - I only went private cos the NHS appointment was gonna take 20 weeks. I then went back to NHS again (as private too expensive - once off was fine but couldnt afford anymore than that) and I was told I have to call once I start the clomid to make an appointment to get the eggs checked to see how many im producing etc. So you will probably get that on the NHS too I would think. I dont know if they will do it every month for me or just the first to see how I respond. If i dont respond to the 50mgs then i think i move to 100 and then 150 if no response then off them if not working - which i hope they will seen as I already Ov on my own.

Hope AF doesnt arrive in the next few days for you but if so good luck with the 1st round of clomid!!!
