Hi all with my previous babies I breast fed then went onto cow and gate formula

But hat was over 7years ago

This time I can't breast feed due to my medication but wondering what formula is best?
There is so many I haven't got a clue which one to buy?

All input appreciated Sandra x

Legally they are regulated in terms of their ingredients so they are pretty much the same. Aptamil is made by the same people as C&G so I think it is only more expensive so that people view it as a premium product and think that because it costs more it must be better.
I would pick one that is readily available in the shops near you, including in your corner shop in case you run out, and see how your baby gets on with that. Try other brands if you think your first choice doesn't suit. I'd say start with C&G first if your other kids got on with it and then if your baby doesn't get on with that, try aptamil or hipp. I don't know about SMA, it is one of the most popular brands though.

i asked my Dr this. His really helpful comment (read sarcasm in that) was that "the best formula is the formula your baby drinks". So helpful when your baby will drink all of them. i got the impression that because they are meant to promote breast feeding they wont recommend a formula.

my sis said years ago when she had her first (so 5 years ago) they told her Aptamil was the best, so we moved on to that from Hipp. I did notice that Emilia was more sicky on SMA but it depends on the baby.

As others have said, pick one thats readily available as they are all the same really. I used Aptamil last time as I was told by other mums that it was the best but now now different so DD is on cow and gate. I wanted to swap to Hipp Organic when she turns 6 months as the follow on formula is much cheaper for ready made than all the others but I do my shopping online and it seems that Hipp Organic has a 6 carton limit on home delivery so I will have to stay with Cow and Gate.

Companies are allowed to advertise to health professionals so they are very keen to make doctors and midwives believe that theirs is the best. Aptamil have done a top job of this - really theirs is no closer to breastmilk than any other formula but loads of midwives believe this claim. I think it is actually a good thing that a doctor won't recommend a specific brand but of course they should be able to advise you if your baby doesn't tolerate regular stage one formula and needs to be changed to something like comfort milk/reflux milk/lactose free or whatever.

If they really did discover something that made one formula way healthier than others, it would be law that they all had to do it surely?

I had no idea what one to use, I used Aptamil because I noticed that was what they were using in the hospital but when I found out Cow & Gate was same company, I changed to that because it was cheaper. I check all the info on the back of the tub and all the ingredients and nutrients were exactly the same between the C&G and the Aptamil

I used aptimil with my first son but he didnt take well to it so i changed to cow ad gate which he was fine on so will be using cow and gate this time round. At 6months i did change to hipp organic mainly as i was using the ready made formulas and they were bigget bottles and cheaper than cow and gate follow on milk and in the night he was having hipp goodnight milk before bed so though best to keep him on the same brand day and night.

All formula in the UK is pretty much the same. They have to share their formulas so they are very generic

While formulas are similar, they do differ slightly. Some babies tolerate certain formulas better than others. I would definitely start with something that's reasonably priced and easily accessible and see how your baby does.

I did use Aptamil with my LO, but it made him quite gassy. So i moved to C&G and he's so much better on it! Little bit more sicky but he's always had reflux. (Only realized after switching there made in the same factory as each other. But they do differ slightly. I'd do what a lot of people have recommended and pick one that's reasonably priced and see how LO gets on :)
