Dd always settled in the evening to music from her baby monitor. We bought a new monitor for ds but I HATE the lullabies!! I want to try white noise as an alternative.

Any recommendations?

I've downloaded a free app & he's gone to sleep this evening listening to it after a feed. If he settles well with it, will he always need exactly the same sounds? Or could I swap the app for, say a ewan dream sheep or similar? (When he's older I don't want to give up my phone for every nap & bedtime!).

What do you do/use??

 thanks!

I use an Ewan. No idea how well it works but I'm hoping sleep association will kick in at some point!

Both my boys have an Ewan

Ds1 is now 3 1/2 and his is looking well loved! I did try replacing it but he knew the difference and refused the new one, he also has a nursery rhyme cd he listens to while falling asleep

DS2 just has Ewan at the moment but I'll also introduce a nursery rhyme cd around 6 months

Both my boys haven't had issues with switching white noise when staying away from home so you shouldn't have an issue introducing something different now

The only issue I'd say with Ewan is that it does use a lot of batteries!

We still use it for my 2 year old. We have an old iPod nano hooked up to an MP3 speaker. We used to use Ewan but as other have said the batteries wouldn't last and DD was just hit and miss with it.

Edited to add - my husband downloaded white noise that was 45 minutes long and we just have it on repeat

Both my boys have a Ewan the dream sheep but in the day for DS2 I use an app on my phone, he settles fine for both. We've also got a Google Nexus tablet which I downloaded a white noise app on, it means I can change between the tablet or my phone depending if I want to use one of them while he has a nap!

I use white noise. it helped dd till it stopped helping her recently. but now it helps ds. honestly I only use it as a last resort when nothing else works. and it's only been an app on my phone and for dd it had to be one specific type of noise while ds could fall asleep with two or three different ones.

Thanks all

I used some "womb" white noise last night & it worked a treat! I let it fade out 10 mins after he dropped off & he slept from 7.30pm until 11.30pm when I woke him to feed him (I couldn't stay up any longer & knew he'd wake the second I dropped off lol!). Seems to have worked really well!! I think I'll keep switching noises though so he doesn't get "stuck" needing the same one

Honeybee - we have an iPad so I could download the same app on there & alternate. Thanks for the tip (feel a bit dim that it hadn't occurred to me!!)

Timetotry - hope you get that sleep association soon!

I hate using loads of batteries so I think I'd find ewan annoying. Thanks for the insight - you've all just saved me £30!

I have an old phone which I have the white noise lite app on and keep it on all night. I think they'd be fine without it but now my DS sleeps well I'm scared to do without it! Also now I'm used to it so I have it in our room for us and DD.

I'm same as Button, use an old phone and have it on all night and my phone or iPad in the day for naps which she has out and about. I had a Ewan but gave it away as it wasn't loud enough or long enough for my dd.

I gave Ewan away as well because it was too quiet

We have an old iPod plugged into a speaker that plays a vacuum noise my dh downloaded that plays on repeat all night. Works great. For naps when we are out I bring my iPad along and play a vacuum noise from a white noise app I downloaded.
