Why are the success rates so low for IVF in the UK?

Was just wondering why this is? I know they are much higher in America, but I've only been given a 33% chance of a pregnancy, which seems very low to me. I'm 35 and have been pg once which ended in mc. Hubby has borderline low morph, but good results for count and motility. Just thought it would have been higher!

It all depends on your clinic, 3 or 5 day transfer etc. For a blastocyst transfer the odds at my clinic are over 60% vs 40% for a 3-day transfer. Plus they factor in all fertility issues as opposed to splitting male/female success rates.

Sugarlove- There u are! we miss you on the dieting thread hun! come an update us :-)

actaully 33% is REALLY good odds of getting pregnant as a average fertile couple only have a 20% chance of pregnancy in a natural cycle so those odds are fab ;-)

thanks Africa. Have you looked into any clinics yet and do you know what their success rates are?
Clinics on London seem to be higher for my age group, so maybe a lot is down to which clinic you use.

Sorry, I know I've been crap on the dieting thread, I shall return and update

Probably because there are laws in place forcing doctors to be way more conservative. I see a lot of people with single embryo transfers in the UK (being the norm it seems) whereas in the US, it's usually a 2-3 embryo transfer for most people if under 40ish for a 3day transfer and for 5 day they do 2 blasts. If over 40 or have severe issues, they are usually very aggressive and transfer many more embryos.

Sugarlove- we dont have the option to look at diff clinics as we are going for NHS funded cycle, so its Liverpool womens for us :-) i have been talking to loads of women who have had IVF there and the success rates seem very good. The Hewitt centre(Liverpool womens) has a good rep so im gonna pray it brings us that BFP :-)

Oooh yeah come back to our diet thread and get the encouragement and support u need. We are a friendly lil group so dnt be shy xxx
