My brother just visited and saw my profile on here as lappy was on in the kitchen....Anyway the only family who know Marlow's name apart from me and OH are my Mum (who loves it and has known for months) and my Dad (who I only told a couple of days ago and also likes it a lot) and you lot here
....anyway bro put two and two together.....and basically had at right pop at me for " not giving the kid a normal name"....."it will be having the piss taken out of it for school and life"...etc.....

And the best one, "why are you naming your baby after a Tweenie?!" (cbeebies show)....erm, I'm not!!! Milo is a Tweenie not Marlow (is a writer and children's poet from the USA and also a vampire in a book I read)

He has now gone off home in a huge paddy and thinks I'm hurting my child with "that name".......over-reaction or what....ever?!

For the record my cousin has just had a baby and given it a truly vile name, so bad I can't even type it, but I would never be so personal to her face or to anybody else for that matter on their choice!

Tsia, I think Mylo is a fab name and never thought of Tweenies before my bro got mixed up! :haha:

My elder two are Ellis (boy) and Romy (girl) and I think Marlow blends well with those!

I never even realised it was!!! ignore him hon, tweenies will be forgotten soon enough anyone even if someone does make the connection :dohh: :haha:

Jeez..... that's why we're not letting on to anyone what name we've chosen. Someone is bound to not like it - so they can find out when it's too late.

Hope he hasn't upset you too much hon. xxx

Pippin, Thanks! :hugs:

As I said Marlow is not a Tweenie, Milo is! But so what? I love both names and when I think of Milo.....I think of the dance act whose cd I love!

KayGeeBee.....I wasn't letting on, just a shame my lappy was on and one of my posts was on screen at the time showing my sig! Totally agree about keeping schtum though!:hugs:

Not upset, just a bit OMG....at his reaction! Oh btw, my bros dog is called Usher after the RnB star, so er his opinion is somewhat dodgy anyway!:haha:

Ahh I see sorry miss read :dohh: but still would never make the connection  So there really is nothing to worry about, I wonder how your brothers mind works now

My middle brother gets like this with me.
You should have heard his 'concerns' about the baby having a vegetarian father (who does all the cooking) ;D

I have no idea, Pippin!

.....But I'm totally loving Zippy Bungle Zebedee as the middle name now.......

Well i for one LOVE Marlow!!
And as for Milo being a tweenie ummm what about hunky spunky Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli in heroes) I honestly think the name Milo is stunning AND MARLOW!!!!
Its okay though hun i'm with you on the family thing just about everyone HATES the name Elinor!!

Marlow is a lovely name! My name's Shula and everyone said to my mum I'd be called things like 'Shoes' 'Boots' etc and do you know what, my nickname is Shu and I love it as I'm a right girly girl and love shoes!! Go for it, kids can find something to take the mick out of in any name/thing, it's just the way they are!

MrsVenn :hugs:

Thank to you aswell, you can't please everybody can you?!

Shula is really unusual and so exotic......I was thinking Hawaii, then saw you live in Hertfordshire! lol

Stunning name!

BAH who cares what he thinks i think its a lovely name! :-) No one likes Archie but tough shit !! x

Yeah just ignore him. It's tough! He's your baby and you can call him whatever you blinking well like!

My OH has a habit of saying rude things to people about their kids names and I'm always telling him off for it. It's upsetting for them and frankly it's bugger all to do with him what they call their kids!

I think he's getting it a bit more now that we're about to have our own... Sometimes people just don't think! :dohh:

I love Marlow BTW! Very classy and it does fit in well with your other kids names! Which are also lovely! :)

Flippin heck, its a perfectly good name, (as if Elinor BTW) Why do some folks feel the need to interfere?? As for names from stories I believe "Wendy" wasnt a name till Peter Pan made it one! So What!!

Goodness what arguements names cause!! I think people should stick their noses out - by all means have an opinion - but to go off in a grump!!!

I love Marlow - Love Milo too!! (and Bella and Jake, not sure on Fizz!)

Oh and Archie was one of my names!! love it!!

Thanks Sam! I don't actually know if Marlow is a girl or boy, I've stayed on team yellow, but think the name suits either gender?!

Your OH will probably learn to be a little more 'diplomatic' once he becomes a Dad...I hope!:haha:

I'm not really upset tbh, just a bit agog at my bros lack of tact in all honesty....his reaction was totally defensive and the way he stormed off to his car ranting about me " ruining your kids future with that name" really shocked and surprised me.....I haven't even told my OH, as the furore it would cause is not worth it!! However, the tiny fragment of hurt I do have is more down to that it's my brother, my child's uncle thinking 'urgh'.......if it was some random in the street, I wouldn't care less, but I love and respect my brother and feel his reaction was less than respectful to me....but anyway, it's just one of them things!!!

Marlow is here in just 15 days and I'm soooooo excited!!!

i HATE the way people think they have a right to tell you what to call your own child!!!:growlmad:

when we called my 3yr old daisy my bil called her daffodill! i just laffed and didnt show that it pissed me of.

now weve got eden i just know we are going to get some other funny comment!

marlow is a lovely name!!!

I like some really unusal names, I particularly love Indiana and Dandy but cant/wont use them because of the fuss people make and can see why people might judge a Dandy on her unusual name and Indiana is out because our surname is James, bit too close to Jones...

However, we will name our little one whatever we like, I'm always amazed that people think they're entitled to share such negative opinions, especially when they ask if you have any names in mind, you reply to be polite and they interpret it as you saying 'what do you truly think of ...., please, be brutally honest here'.
