Why do people bother asking?

if they're just going to turn their noses up at? It's almost as if they're dying to criticise, which is why they ask. :growlmad:
I think we're going to stop telling people until it's born. I'm nervous enough telling people we're pg (after my dad's reaction), and now a few bad reactions to names...I'll be a bloody nervous wreck by 40 weeks!
Has anyone else stopped sharing their name choices?

I never told anyone except my little sister, though i did share the ones i liked but OH didnt... I think its kinda nice to keep it a surprise that only you and your OH knows about.

:hugs: Luckily I didn't have to deal with that

I would never tell until the baby's born - no one is going to look at your little one & say "what a terrible name s/he has!" but they feel ok with saying it when your child is unborn?

i did tell people, but someone used my no1 name, so now im zipping my mouth shut till dec!!!!!!!!!! zip zip zip

people are in habit of not being satisfied the best way is to ignore them i just told my brother about it as he is the only one near to me............rest i kept a secret i thought thats the best way.

My nefew said, 'I don't want a cousin called 'X'' - so I said, tough!

We were going to keep the name a secret but now the sex is now a secret (even me and OH have no clue). I was keeping the names a secret but OH couldn't help himself at the time.

We are happy with the names we have chosen so everyone else will have to like or keep their mouths shut!

We are telling no one!! We have pressure from DH's family to use a more Samoan name this time, and my parents disapprove of anything they don't like. Its our baby, so we will decide and then tell everyone when the bub is born.

Some still do...When Luka was born, my MIL said 'what kind of name is that" luckily she said it to OH and I wasn't there! Peope can be so rude!

me and my oh can only decide on 1 boys name we both like (one of his ideas for a boy was sonic....WHY? does he dislike his child???) tho seeing as his best friend is the xbox i wasnt surprised.....but when we tell people the name i hate some reactions....exactly as you said ellers, turning their nose up! why bother asking then? bcos now im doubting the name and its freaking me out cos it was so hard even getting a name we finally both like and thats just for a boy, we havent even thought of a girls name....our ideas are so different tho i still do insist that as ill go through the pain its only right i should get the name i want lol..... anyway we're finding out what we are having tonight so might (hopefully) make things a bit easier :) and think ill take some of the advice on this page and keep it to myself.....

i wouldn't tell random strangers or acquintances (sp?) but i've always known what
the names of my cousins was going to be before they were born.
on one side of the family they had -at the time- weird names picked out, which we
were not really fond of, but they said "her name will be..." end of story, by the time
they were born everyone got used to the names.
