Why does she push it away?

When Scarlett was born, I couldn't breastfeed her because she kept shoving my boob out of her mouth with her little hands (only 1 day old so couldn't be doing it on purpose). I gave her bottles and she didn't really do it so I kept on with the bottles. Now, she does it again! I put the bottle in and she either repeatedly shoves it away so she can suck on her fingers (which she does when she's hungry) or the second she sees it coming towards her she screams, arches her back and wriggles making it impossible.

HV have suggested it's wind but I don't think it is. She used to be colicky and it's different to that. It's affecting her sleep because I can only feed her while she is dozing and subsequently she is waking up at 1, 3 and 5 to eat because she is getting her meal times muddled.

Help!!!!!! :dohh:

teething? this is my favorite word those days! Get her a teething gel & apply it on he gums when she pushes out her bottle, wind her, then give her back her bottle. BFing those days is a nightmare for us. Omar is just rejecting to take his bottles, & it's taking forever to finish a bottle. His gums r really sore. It started when he was around 14 wks old. Or u might need to go size up for the teats.

Yesterday I had to spoon feed him his bottle as he couldnt suck frm the pain :(

Ooooooh yeah could be!!! Well done :hugs: Poor little babies. lol Scarlett is a terror for teats, she is already on the Dr Browns 6 month + teat and the only one with a faster flow is the one for thickened liquids.

I will definitely get the bonjela out first thing in the morning, thanks xxxx

My son is teething and often pushes his bottle away due to the pain.

We'r using the same teats. I also love Amber teething neckless & TT teething dummy. Omar cant stop chewing it to cool his gums. It's easier to use than any other teether. U can also try Dentinox teething gel as u can use it every 20 mins, but bonjela can only be used every 3 hrs I think. If she's restless, some calpol with do the trick.

Poor babies. xx

Yeah sounds like teething, my lo does the finger sucking thing when her gums hurt. Their little gums can hurt that early aswell even though teeth may not come for awhile.
Also my lo did exactly the same thing with the pushing away boob when she was born!

Carmen's doing the same, it's driving me mental. It's hard for me to believe she's teething since she's so young, but I think it just might be that.

Edward is doing this too. Really badly, and screaming. It's starting to really frustrate me. Isn't he too young to be teething though? xx

It takes a while for a tooth to show. But teething might start early. Omar has been teething since he was 10 wks old, & until now no teeth coming out.

Lucas is doing this too- always sucking on his hands and on some bottles in the day I can only get 2 oz into him and thats a struggle and he screams and bats the bottle away- its so worrying! I have got those ashton and parsons powders- might give them a go see if it helps. He cant hold things himself yet, he was prem so thats hard too.

Well if it's not teething it could be ear infection or ear ache...I read that babies won't feed well with one bc the swallowing causes pain in the inner ear...worth checking out.....
