Mum friends with more than 1, I need opinions. In December I'll have a new born and a just-turned-3-yr-old. I'm really in two minds as to whether I'll need a double buggy. DD is happy to walk most places.... but at a snail's pace.... and with a tendency to run if she's sees something pink/sparkly/dangerous looking lol. I'm torn between a buggy board or a double especially as it'll be cold and wet for the first few months?? Any experiences welcome x x

No experience yet but I'll be in the same situation in January with a newborn and a 2y9m old. I wasn't planning on getting a double buggy as she really hates being in the buggy at the minute so can't see it getting better by then. I have a wrist strap which I'm trying to get her used to now so that I can get her to walk along next to the buggy and not be able to run off. Also considered a buggy board for when I need to get somewhere in a hurry.

A double buggy would probably be easier but not sure I can justify the expense and also the inconvenience of it if she's not going to be in it very much....

How about one of those added on standing things? (sorry, can't remember the right word!)

3 is already older, and she probably won't be in a stroller for much longer.

I will have a newborn and almost two year old and not planning on a double buggy, I think I will invest in a good baby carrier/sling and for long distances have toddler in buggy and baby in carrier/sling.

My daughter was just short of 3 when my son was born she didn't sit in buggy much so we used a buggy board.

At Christmas I'll have a newborn and a nearly 2.5 year old, I've gone with a double as like yours she is a very slow walker or wants to be carried. I don't think I'll get a lot of use from it before I add on a buggy board but I needed the freedom to get out with them both in those winter months so for me it was an essential.x

My dd2 will be 2years 5 months when baby is born but walks everywhere now so I won't be getting a double this time xx

Once baby is born Scarlett will be 2. She walks most places but does use the stroller too.

I've invested in a close caboo carrier for the newborn and then we are buying a new pram which is suitable from birth (and not bright pink) so they can both use it.

Xx

My daughter will be 2 years and 4 months when baby arrives and we've opted to get a double buggy. As above, I can see myself with baby in the carrier (we have a Caboo and an Ergo) and toddler in the buggy on a lot of occasions, but I also want to be prepared for instances such as going out for coffee with friends (wouldn't feel comfortable drinking coffee with baby in carrier) or long days out when they will both need somewhere to nap.

I don't think I could deal with a buggy board, I'm quite tall and occasionally clip the chassis with my toes when walking as it is, never mind with a buggy board on! I think I would have to stoop and walk really awkwardly not to kick the board which can't be good for your back, especially as I walk around 3 miles minimum per day.

Have you seen the Joovy Caboose tandem pushchair? I was quite tempted by that as it is far more toddler friendly than some of the other doubles. Has baby seat as normal at the front, and then a little seat or stand platform at the back for toddler.

My daughter was 2 years 3 months when number two arrived and we didn't have a double buggy as she just didn't need it. When number 3 arrives again second daughter will be 2.5 so no double!

ds2 will be 2 months shy of 2 when baby comes along and im getting an Oyster Max Tandem (so it can be used as a single or a tandem), he wont be in it for short journeys but if its peeing it down/ long journeys then he will be in it. ds1 was 3 years 3 months when ds2 came along and he walked most of the time and we used the old pram for him if need be. A double witll be so much easier. x

Thanks everyone... I'm so tempted as I found a zeta twin pushchair with all the accessories on Amazon for £99. It's reduced from £289.
Thing is it's still a lot of money to spend when there's so much stuff still on our list to get. Decisions decisions x x

that is a bargain hun. mine was just over £500.

and the good thing with doubles/tandems is they have great resale value xx

I'm going with something like this^^^ as well. Reviews say they take up the same amount of space as a regular stroller (well, the travel system kind, not the umbrella kind).

I've had a newborn and 3 year old..I must admit, I did rather enjoy having a double stroller when I went to anusenent parks...but that was usually the only time...otherwise I had my single for the rest of the time...

With this baby (my fourth) I'll have a 2 years 5 month old...I'm thinking about getting a double...but not sure..she doesn't seem to like it right now, but not sure if when the new baby comes if she will gain a sudden interest in being in the stroller...or how well I'll adapt to having a newborn and a toddler and trying to go out for errands or what not...I'll have to wait and see..

my DD will literally have turned two by the time LO arrives and i too am stuck between a double or single and buggy board, my DD loves to walk but does have a tendancy to just stop and sit if she decides she jst doesnt want to walk or if she sees a nice puddle she loves to just throw herself into them lol .. Tempted for the double as it will be winter and she is just tiny and i just feel that Having her walk about in the most likely heavy rain and wind at christmas/ Jan& feb time will be a little much for her ..
goodluck on ur choice whatever one u make will be the right one for u :) x

U thought of a buggy that u can add the extra seat underneath if needed? Then u can have a single for the most of it and a double when needed. My brother and sil got a double when my nephew was born, niece was only just over a year but they hardly used it and ended up selling it and needing to buy a new single one after about 3 months. Think of how many occasions they will both NEED to be in it, will it be a rare thing? If so go for a single. A regular thing? Go for a double. If ur not sure or think it will be almost evenly split go for one u can convert to a double

^^ thats what mine is :) you can have it as a single or a double and can have the seats in different combos too :)

My ds1 was 2 and 1/2 when we had our second and I brought the graco stadium tandem. I brought it when it was on offer so paid about £150 for the pushchair, cosy toes and rain cover. I decided at that price I'd only need to use it a few times to get my money worth. My oldest is a good walker but I liked being able to walk into town rather than drive etc and it's easier to give him the option rather than expect him to walk all the time. As it turns out we've used it loads so I say definitely worth it

I'll be in the same situation when my LO comes in December. My son will be 2 years and 5 months. He hates being in his buggy and prefers to walk so I got just a single pram for her. He's no problem walking at all. He can be a bit slow and take his time but I don't mind at all.
