Ethan is 6 months old on Friday and I think I'll switch him onto Aptamil stage 3 milk. I was talking to my friend who told me her HV recommended that she just keep her LO on stage 1 milk? This confused me abit. Just wondering what everyone else did :flower:

We switched to Aptamil follow on at around 8 mnths as Omar was off his formula & wasnt taking enough. He was on aptamil AR (for reflux) which is suitable frm 0-12 mnths. When we switched he started to take more. he's also not a big eater & follow on has more vit & iron. xx

I switched to follow on milk at about 9 months because my grandmother suggested it. He wanted less feeds on it, which was good considering I was trying to drop some of his feeds.

Plan is to switch when he's about 9 months ish at the mo. As a previous poster says, I will switch when I want him to drop to less FF'eds before we go to only cows milk at a year. He is still drinking a lot of first milk at the mo and we're just into weaning so I don't want to change too much for him in one go. Official line I was told by HV is you can switch to follow on or stay with first milk/hungry baby until they're a year - it's up to you.

My lo is on SMA LF so we wont be switching until he grows out of his intolerance :)

I switched daughter number 1 from stage 1 to stage 3 at 6 months (APtimil). I even went to the effort of weaning her gently onto it, just incase it tasted differently. To use up the last tub of stage 1 I mixed them half and half for a bit and then gradually reduced it down to a mear scoop of stage 1 in with the 6 scoops of stage 3. Waste not want not!

I'm planning on doing exactly the same for daughter number 2 in a few months time.

We tried switching at around 7 months, but switched back again. Dylan hadn't dropped any FFs at that point, and was having approx 36oz per day. He ended up constipated. I suspect this was because of the amount he was having - I believe it would be ok now we're down to 18oz per day, but we're so close to going onto cows milk now I don't see the point!

my hv said not to change to next stage. She said that its only there cause they cant market before 6 month. I didnt want to change anyway. Kacey loves her milk x

there is no need to switch to follow on milk unless your baby needs more vitamins. But technically they should be getting what they need from the food they have started eating. Its a marketing ploy as they cant advertise stage 1milk. Stage 1 milk is suitable up to 12months. Same as there is no need for toddler milk because they can have cows milk. Unless they cant have cows milk xxx

Yeah my HV told me to just keep Jake on his comfort milk. :) I won't be buying follow-on.

i havent switched and dont plan on doing so tbh, i think it has more iron in it which isnt necessary for william as he has a varied diet anyway and my hv said it is fine to keep him on stage one untill we switch to cows milk

My Hv told me not to bother switching, and to keep baby on stage 1 milk until 1 year - obviously introducing solids at some point - and then give her full fat cow's milk at 1 year

I switched at 6 months as Daisy wasnt really keen on eating and its tailored to her age needs iykwim? xxx

I use SMA Gold which is suitable upto 12 months so no need :)

I'm the same, I bought Aptamil follow on today and gave him his first bottle tonight. Ethan isn't keen on solids either so thought it best for him to get his extra iron from his milk. Can I ask, has Daisy sharted showing more interest in her food? I'm getting worried about Ethan, he is not interested at all in solid food, just wants his milk!! xx

Thank you all for your replies xx :flower:

Omar started to show interest in food at 6.5 mnths. He's not a big drinker but he was satesfied with milk only. We tried to wean at wk 20 due to reflux, but he wasnt interested & we had to stop after few weeks. If ur LO is taking enough formula there is nothing to worry about, he will start eating once he's ready hun. Some babies like mine dont like baby food, but once u start inroducing real food it changes. At 6.5 mnths I started by offering Omar tastes frm what we'r eating fork mashed, & he loved it. At 7 mnths we started giving him food without mashing. Now he loves his food esp savoury. xx
