Personally I prefer longer names you can shorten, in the main because I hate my one syllable name. However, if YOU just prefer Will I think that's fine, you shouldn't feel the need to conform to a longer name you're really not so into. I know of a Kate (not short for anything), have a friend called Abbie (not short for Abigail) and have a member of extended family called Tom (not short for Thomas, just Tom). It's perfectly usual nowadays for names like Jack (always used to be short for John), Alfie and Freddie, why not Will?
