Hi,
My friend's baby has suffered from painful bouts of trapped wind since birth. She is 5.5 months old now and the situation hasn't got any better (or worse) with breastfeeding, formula feeding and the introduction of solids. She poos regularly but struggles beforehand, often screaming in pain. My friend has been to the doctors but they are at a loss. She's tried gripe water, colic treatments, changing formula, positioning, rubbing her lower back etc but nothing seems to help.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks,
Rach x

I guess she's tried Simethicone (like in Infacol)? How long is she allowing between changing formulas?

DD was on Similac Sensitive when first changed to formula and it made her horribly constipated...so we switched to Similac Advance (Regular stuff) and it made her have really bad gas pains, to the point where she'd scream for an hour or two while passing wind because it was painful - she'd fall asleep, then wake up a minute or two later with pains again.... I used to hold her and pat the base of her back while pressing her tummy into me, which eased her enough that she could fall asleep after a little while.

Now we put Simethicone into all of her feeds, so any trapped/painful gas should be reduced....but she actually started getting a little better about a week before we did that - the paediatrician said it just took her a long time to get used to the formula (about a month).... That's all the advice I have, sorry!! Hope she finds something that works soon...

ETA: Our paediatrician actually suggested a Soy based formula I believe, if her wind gets bad again. I was lactose intolerant as a baby (and am again now) and was put on a Soy based formula after my mum stopped BF'ing...

My daughter was really really windy and turned out to be lactose problem.
