I got my payslip this morning and have been paid nothing. I've finished my mat leave on 1st feb and technically returned to work then although I'm on annual leave now to use it up before I go back (something my company insist on).

So I should have had my normal pay this month. I've emailed my HR who've said someones forgotten to amend my details to say I'm off mat leave. And although its gonna be sorted it looks like its going to take ages.

Does anyone know my rights? My wages should be in the bank tomorrow and I know they are going to say its not possible. But potentially I could face bank charges etc through no fault of my own.

Also they're a big company so its not like its one poor overworked wages clerk who has to sort it. Is it reasonable for them to ask me to wait?

Any help much appreciated, thanks xx

They should be able to issue the funds quicky THEN sort out the mess - this happened to us a year or to ago, and they did a group BACS the next working day.

I am sure someone said before that if you incur charges for missed DD etc then your work should cover these as it IS their fault.

They should be able to do a CHAPS payment which goes into your bank account at midnight, if sorted out by around midday.

It happened to me once. I work in HR, and somebody faxed over their new bank details marked 'For the attention of .....(my name)'. Our new payroll provider then changed my bank details, so somebody got paid my money!!!! I only realised later on (I now make sure I check I've been paid).

Anyway, I demanded a CHAPS payment and they refunded my bank charges, which is reasonable, considering their mistake.

My place just write out a cheque if pay gets messed up then deduct the amount from the next payslip (when the money would go through).and its a very big company too...its probably not how they are supposed to do it really!!lol

this has just happened to me!!
i had to fight on the phone for ages to get my pay and it took them a week to do it ive been refunded all the bank charges also, i photocopied the bank statement to show these charges

Hi, you are entitled to be paid your annual leave at your normal remuneration rate, following the end of your maternity leave. It would appear that an administrative error has been made with payroll and I would certainly raise it informally with HR explaining your position with the bank to see whether they can arrange for your salary to be paid to you prior to your banking commitments. In the event that your employer further delays payment, please do get in touch.
